Announcements/Reminders

  • The launch of the Try GutenbergGutenberg The Gutenberg project is the new Editor Interface for WordPress. The editor improves the process and experience of creating new content, making writing rich content much simpler. It uses ‘blocks’ to add richness rather than shortcodes, custom HTML etc. https://wordpress.org/gutenberg/ callout is scheduled for the release of WordPress 4.9.8
    • WordPress 4.9.8 is due for general release on July 31st

Gutenberg

  • Representatives from various hostingHosting A web hosting service is a type of Internet hosting service that allows individuals and organizations to make their website accessible via the World Wide Web. teams attended the meeting to discuss strategies for supporting WordPress users through the launch of Try Gutenberg and Gutenberg.
    • Many hosts are planning for a gradual roll out of Gutenberg when WordPress 5.0 launches.
    • Hosts are also working on educating their support teams and their customers.
    • Hosts are looking at utilizing the Gutenberg Ramp plugin and the Classic Editor plugin to help smooth the transition to Gutenberg for users with websites that may not be entirely compatible with Gutenberg when Gutenberg launches.
  • Hosting representatives expressed concerns about some of the critical bugs in Gutenberg that have not been fixed yet.
  • The team proposed three goals to guide preparations for Try Gutenberg’s launch on July 31st:
    • Train subject-matter experts within each hosting company.
    • Fix the most pressing and concerning bugs.
    • Create a well-defined bug reporting workflow.
  • The team plans to continue collaborating with hosts to achieve these goals ahead of the July 31st launch of Try Gutenberg.
