## WordPress versions

The [WordPress Versions](https://wordpress.org/documentation/article/wordpress-versions/)
page has been revamped to improve access to information and ease its maintenance.

### Changes

 1. The version order has been changed from ascending to descending, so the newest
versions now appear at the top of the list.
 2. Due to the size of the file, the page has been split into two pages:
 3. a. [WordPress Versions](https://wordpress.org/documentation/article/wordpress-versions/)–
starting at 5.0, this page will continue to house future releases.
     b. [WordPress Versions 0.7 to 4.9](https://wordpress.org/documentation/article/wordpress-versions-0-7-to-4-9/)–
contains the oldest versions of WordPress, maintained for historical purposes.

The [WordPress version changelog](https://wordpress.org/documentation/wordpress-version/version-7-0)
has also changed as of WordPress release 7.0: the list of wordpress packages is
no longer specifically updated for each release. Instead, each release will include
a [note](https://wordpress.org/documentation/wordpress-version/version-7-0/#updated-packages)
with more information where available.

## BlockBlock Block is the abstract term used to describe units of markup that, composed together, form the content or layout of a webpage using the WordPress editor. The idea combines concepts of what in the past may have achieved with shortcodes, custom HTML, and embed discovery into a single consistent API and user experience. article advanced settings update

The Advanced Settings section on individual block pages now links to a page of shared
advanced settings to improve maintainability. Block-specific settings will continue
to appear on their respective block pages. See [issue #2287](https://github.com/WordPress/Documentation-Issue-Tracker/issues/2287).

### 5.8 Release

 * Today we’re entering betaBeta A pre-release of software that is given out to
a large group of users to trial under real conditions. Beta versions have gone
through alpha testing in-house and are generally fairly close in look, feel and
function to the final product; however, design changes often occur as part of
   the process. 3 phase.

 * By the next Tuesday (when RC1 is starting) we’ll have all dev notes and field
   guide published

 * After that we start working on DevHub and HelpHub updates

Volunteers: anyone wants to help with DevHub, pingPing The act of sending a very
small amount of data to an end point. Ping is used in computer science to illicit
a response from a target server to test it’s connection. Ping is also a term used
by Slack users to @ someone or send them a direct message (DM). Users might say
something along the lines of “Ping me when the meeting starts.” [@milana_cap](https://profiles.wordpress.org/milana_cap/)

## Project Updates

[@tacitonic](https://profiles.wordpress.org/tacitonic/) is currently writing the
article for [D](https://make.wordpress.org/docs/style-guide/word-list/d/). He has
completed 24/28 articles in the final section remaining, that is the word list.

[@zzap](https://profiles.wordpress.org/milana_cap/) didn’t check all the tickets
yet but so far this is what we’ll have, But the blockBlock Block is the abstract
term used to describe units of markup that, composed together, form the content
or layout of a webpage using the WordPress editor. The idea combines concepts of
what in the past may have achieved with shortcodes, custom HTML, and embed discovery
into a single consistent API and user experience. editor end-user and dev docs excluded.

### HelpHub updates:

– Remove the “Featured” tab in the Add Themes screen

– Rename “Summary” to “ExcerptExcerpt An excerpt is the description of the blog
post or page that will by default show on the blog archive page, in search results(
SERPs), and on social media. With an SEO plugin, the excerpt may also be in that
plugin’s metabox.” in Reading Settings

– Remove IE11 from the list of supported browsers

– Twenty Fifteen, Twenty Fourteen, Twenty Thirteen, Twenty Twelve: Add Block Patterns

– Customize: Bulk delete widgets

– Add a copy-link button at the media upload page

– Add ability to delete multiple menu items

– Enable revisionsRevisions The WordPress revisions system stores a record of each
saved draft or published update. The revision system allows you to see what changes
were made in each revision by dragging a slider (or using the Next/Previous buttons).
The display indicates what has changed in each revision. for the reusable block
custom post typeCustom Post Type WordPress can hold and display many different types
of content. A single item of such a content is generally called a post, although
post is also a specific post type. Custom Post Types gives your site the ability
to have templated posts, to simplify the concept.

### DevHub updates:

– Ability to mark the pluginPlugin A plugin is a piece of software containing a
group of functions that can be added to a WordPress website. They can extend functionality
or add new features to your WordPress websites. WordPress plugins are written in
the PHP programming language and integrate seamlessly with WordPress. These can
be free in the WordPress.org Plugin Directory [https://wordpress.org/plugins/](https://wordpress.org/plugins/)
or can be cost-based plugin from a third-party. as unmanaged

– Remove IE11 from the list of supported browsers

– Add new actions to Site Health navigation

– Remove the “Featured” tab in the Add Themes screen

– Add capability to set the default format for image sub-sizes.

– Standardise the terminology used for hooksHooks In WordPress theme and development,
hooks are functions that can be applied to an action or a Filter in WordPress. Actions
are functions performed when a certain event occurs in WordPress. Filters allow
you to modify certain functions. Arguments used to hook both filters and actions
look the same., actions, and filters in documentation

Anyone who wants to get involved with her, you can pingPing The act of sending a
very small amount of data to an end point. Ping is used in computer science to illicit
a response from a target server to test it’s connection. Ping is also a term used
by Slack users to @ someone or send them a direct message (DM). Users might say

[doc](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1RS0BEwy8pNNHR7P_nZ3yKcgWKVABbEn9RMjja-wkJwY/edit?usp=sharing).
Once she has all the list of updates completed she’ll publish p2 with kind words
and cookies, begging for help. But the shocking news is, there are no docs whatsoever
about Site Health and that should be changed, regardless of the release.

[@mkaz](https://profiles.wordpress.org/mkaz/) basically the block editor and FSE
updates for 5.8 reaching a finalized state, and he’ll work on updating the dev docs
for those parts in the spreadsheet.

[@kenshino](https://profiles.wordpress.org/kenshino/) agreed to [@zzap](https://profiles.wordpress.org/milana_cap/)
and said when he tried to look for “What the hell is the endpoint for Site Health”
and couldn’t find any official information

[@zzap](https://profiles.wordpress.org/milana_cap/) talked to [@clorith](https://profiles.wordpress.org/clorith/)
about it. Apparently, they asked for dedicated space, didn’t move further with the
request, and gave up

No new block editor update

[@clorith](https://profiles.wordpress.org/clorith/) wasn’t sure with an ingrained
knowledge of that issue, but so far we’ve been very good about documenting filters
and actions that it has, as well as dev notes with releases under the **site-health
tag** on make/coreCore Core is the set of software required to run WordPress. The
Core Development Team builds WordPress. at least

[@zzap](https://profiles.wordpress.org/milana_cap/) wasn’t sure whether folks within
here are tickets for the end-user as well. Here is the [link for the tickets](https://core.trac.wordpress.org/query?keywords=~needs-codex&component=Site+Health&group=resolution&col=id&col=summary&col=component&col=owner&col=type&col=priority&col=version&order=priority)

[@kenshino](https://profiles.wordpress.org/kenshino/) it looked like they can at
least have an easy page created that kinda says “We have a Sitehealth piece” and
this is what you can do

[@kenshino](https://profiles.wordpress.org/kenshino/) was talking about [@Courtney](https://profiles.wordpress.org/courane01/)’
s [proposal](https://wordpress.slack.com/archives/C02RP4WU5/p1622226204156400) and
[@zzap](https://profiles.wordpress.org/milana_cap/) has been talking to [@mkaz](https://profiles.wordpress.org/mkaz/)
about this and he thinks it could be a good thing to propose once we get the team-
reps channel. The doc team thinks that core dev should be paired with someone from
docs as soon as the new feature is started developing. Or perhaps each component
should have someone from docs looking after it and working with devs. Of course,
we don’t have enough people but I’m thinking that this might actually attract more
contributors due to close work with devs.
