Docs Team Coffee Break April 2021 Summary

The April 2021 Coffee Break took place on the 30th instant at 0900 AM UTC timing which saw the presence of 7 contributors from the Global Documentation Team. Kudos to @chaion07 for hosting!

Smiles all around with a few familiar faces at the start of the April 2021 Coffee Break

The Coffee Break for April began with an APAC friendly timing, which was a result of an impromptu announcement to a discussion which lacked a response from the team. Nonetheless with a little help from one of the newest Team Reps, @atachibana announced the @here call and we saw a few contributors joining instantly to the Zoom Call. Thanks to @ashiquzzaman, @thisisyeasin, @gtarafdarr, @atiktonmoy, @imtiazprotik & @nahidsharifkomol for attending the April 2021 Coffee Break.

A few random questions we asked during the coffee break that everyone participated in are:

  • An app mysteriously appears on your phone that does something amazing. What does it do?
  • If you had your own intro music, what song would it be? Why?
  • What is the one thing you miss about being a kid?

We thank those who attended the Docs Team Coffee Break. We invite all of you to join the coffee break for May 2021 as it progresses from planning to execution.

Discussion: April 2021 Coffee Break

The monthly coffee break for the Documentation Team is back again!

What is a Virtual Coffee Break

Coffee Breaks are informal discussions taking place in a Zoom call for 30 minutes among regular and new contributors to the Make WordPress Docs Team. We have an ongoing agenda which can be traced back to the most recent meeting summary to help facilitate the process. Currently @sukafia and @chaion07 are volunteering with the responsibilities. We’ve also had @estelaris hosting one the coffee break for November last year. Join the next coffee break and express your interest should you wish to host one.

Since the February 2021 Coffee Break, we had to skip the one for March 2021 as many contributors were unavailable including both @sukafia & @chaion07 were experiencing circumstances beyond control. Now we welcome you to share your thoughts on the April Coffee Break. Please comment below to let us know your thoughts on the Virtual Coffee Break that began during the global pandemic in 2020.

  • Choose the date for the Coffee Break: 27, 29 or 30 of April (intentionally skipped 28 since Wednesdays are packed with meetings😅)
  • Preferred time-zone: EU, US, APAC, etc.
  • General comments or concerns (if any)

Props to @sukafia for the peer review!

We mostly talked about how to become a Documentation Contributor and what projects are there to contribute. I tried to answer various questions ranging from the Handbook to the weekly meeting. All contributors were encouraged to attend the weekly meetings.

Summary of Docs Team Virtual Coffee Break: January 2021

The virtual coffee break for January happened on the 29th instant from 15:00 UTC to 15:30 UTC as per schedule. I facilitated the session with only Estela Rueda answering the call. We understand the fact that a lot of our regular contributors aren’t back from holidays yet and as the second wave of COVID is emerging in different parts of the world it is becoming a lot difficult that we can imagine for contributors to join in.

During the session we had a casual discussion about our lives and we tried to reflect on the collaborations that we contributed to during last year. We talked about family and friends including our journey for the documentation regarding the projects that we are working on. Personally it was great for me to receive first-hand advice from Estela about contributing to open sourceOpen Source Open Source denotes software for which the original source code is made freely available and may be redistributed and modified. Open Source **must be** delivered via a licensing model, see GPL. and WordPress.

P.S. Even though Estela asked me not to write a p2 or post screenshots from our virtual coffee break, I thought it would be a good practice to continue with the tradition of having an update for the team. I hope she won’t mind. Thank you all and stay safe!

Docs Team Monthly Virtual Coffee Break: January 2021

What is a Virtual Coffee Break

Coffee Breaks are informal discussions taking place in a Zoom call for 30 minutes among regular and new contributors to the Make WordPress Docs Team. What happens in a Coffee Break?

Contributors engage in casual and fun conversations in a safe virtual environment. We ask ice breaker questions to build rapport among each other that have resulted in a better sense of understanding with each other amidst the global pandemic that we are facing currently. Now is the time to support our contributors more than ever and the coffee break creates a difference simply by creating a scope and opportunity to hear one another out. You can join in and hang out with fellow contributors to the Make WordPress Global Documentation Team.

Docs Team Coffee Break November Update!

Hello Folks,

As we inch closer to a second wave of COVID, it has become more important than ever to stand next to our fellow contributors. The idea of having a monthly informal discussion in the form of a ‘Virtual Coffee Break’ experience is something we are finding rather helpful while trying to maintain proper social distancing. Even though we would hope for majority of our fellow contributors to join in and support the same concept it may not always be the case. Understanding this, the team came up with the idea of rotation in the timing to serve multiple time zones. Additionally, we expect to write a dedicated p2 post with the information covering the Docs Team Coffee Break.
