Docs Meetup Roundup – Sept 12, 2013

Happy Friday Folks,

Here’s a summary of yesterday’s Docs Chat:

1. Issue Tracker for Docs

Sam posted a spec for the Docs Issue Tracker.

Please help out by posting questions or comments regarding the issue tracker in the comments of the spec.

2. Add Media in the Codex

Just a little more work needed on the new Add Media page in the Codex.  Thanks to @DrewAPicture for his great work!

3. Inline Docs

@kimparsell reported that the inline docs standard is pretty much finalized, so additions are only happening where we need clarification.

Office hours: Inline Docs are holding weekly office hours on Wednesdays at 18:00 UTC in #wordpress-dev IRC channel.

4. Admin Help Videos

@jazzs3quence posted latest notes from the Admin Help meeting.

These folks could still use help too.

5. Handbooks

I’ve re-inventoried the Theme Dev Handbook trying to match what’s in the Theme Dev Handbook with its corresponding spreadsheet.  It’s pretty much up-to-date at the moment, but there’s still a lot to do.  Get in touch with me if you’d like to help.

PluginPlugin A plugin is a piece of software containing a group of functions that can be added to a WordPress website. They can extend functionality or add new features to your WordPress websites. WordPress plugins are written in the PHP programming language and integrate seamlessly with WordPress. These can be free in the WordPress.org Plugin Directory https://wordpress.org/plugins/ or can be cost-based plugin from a third-party Dev Handbook still needs an editor to help drive and organize progress.

6. Monthly Docs Improvement Meetups

We’re holding monthly Docs Improvement Meetups in Seattle and want to encourage other Meetups and groups to do the same, or participate in the Seattle Docs MeetupMeetup All local/regional gatherings that are officially a part of the WordPress world but are not WordCamps are organized through https://www.meetup.com/. A meetup is typically a chance for local WordPress users to get together and share new ideas and seek help from one another. Searching for ‘WordPress’ on meetup.com will help you find options in your area. remotely.

I’ll be publishing a post here shortly with a few tips for organizing your own Docs Improvement Meetup.

We’re also considering starting up another monthy virtual Docs Improvement Meetup where we’ll meet over IRC and collaborate on docs together, so we can hopefully knock out the Handbooks soon.

Details to follow next week.

7. devhub (developer.wordpress.orgWordPress.org The community site where WordPress code is created and shared by the users. This is where you can download the source code for WordPress core, plugins and themes as well as the central location for community conversations and organization. https://wordpress.org/)

Design Mockups: The talented @saracannon posted a design mockup for the handbooks here: http://s.sar.ac/image/2r0c3P3d2J3q – it’s lovely.  Thanks Sara!

Office hours: devhub will now have regular office hours on Tuesdays at 16:00 UTC.

TracTrac Trac is the place where contributors create issues for bugs or feature requests much like GitHub.https://core.trac.wordpress.org/. tickets: @sams has also added Trac tickets for devhub.

If anyone can help with these tickets, please do.  Thanks @sams!
