Backbone.js docs discussion thread

At the theme/pluginPlugin A plugin is a piece of software containing a group of functions that can be added to a WordPress website. They can extend functionality or add new features to your WordPress websites. WordPress plugins are written in the PHP programming language and integrate seamlessly with WordPress. These can be free in the Plugin Directory or can be cost-based plugin from a third-party dev handbook office hours yesterday, we discussed getting some docs together to help our wonderful WordPress developers make use of the library. @kadamwhite has volunteered to take on this task, so I’m starting this thread for general discussion of it.

In terms of readership, I think you can assume a good knowledge of PHPPHP PHP (recursive acronym for PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor) is a widely-used open source general-purpose scripting language that is especially suited for web development and can be embedded into HTML. in the reader, and no knowledge of backbone.js In terms of general structure, here are some elements that would be good to see incorporated:

  • Introduction to backbone.js for WP developers
  • structuring your files
  • making use of backbone.js in WP
  • practical examples
  • possibly something on troubleshooting?

@kadamwhite wants to brainstorm some examples so please add some to this thread. We should have something basic, intermediate, and advanced, and hopefully they should be making use of WP.

Also, he’s going on a backbone.js course pretty soon so he’ll be able make use of all the knowledge for us!

As more and more JS makes its way into WordPress, we may need to make more of these types of documents to make sure that developers are able to play with their new toys.
