Open Sourcing Theme Designs

An important tenet of working in open sourceOpen Source Open Source denotes software for which the original source code is made freely available and may be redistributed and modified. Open Source **must be** delivered via a licensing model, see GPL. is having a high degree of transparency and access around the design process. The WordPress Figma has long been open to the public, making it easy for all to view and duplicate files and get started building using our design library. Theme designs could be open-sourced and made available in this same way.

As of July 1st, a number of themes authored by WordPress coreCore Core is the set of software required to run WordPress. The Core Development Team builds WordPress. and other theme developers have been added to the WordPress Figma. Users can now explore the designs for popular themes such as Stewart, Archeo or Pendant and add their own theme designs that have been submitted to WordPress.org.

To submit yours, simply paste a link to your Figma file on the Making WordPress Slack’s #design channel, and a member of the WordPress.org Figma organization will add it to the project if you do not have access.

A Theme Template file has been created with two main objectives: share the designs of launched blockBlock Block is the abstract term used to describe units of markup that, composed together, form the content or layout of a webpage using the WordPress editor. Theme Design Challenge Weekend

Hey folks,

The WordPress Theme Review Team is going to be throwing a Theme Design Challenge the weekend of December 13-14. This is a great chance for designers who are interested in designing themes, but aren’t totally sure where to start or aren’t comfortable coding their designs.
