Updates

Good things are happening over in GutenbergGutenberg The Gutenberg project is the new Editor Interface for WordPress. The editor improves the process and experience of creating new content, making writing rich content much simpler. It uses ‘blocks’ to add richness rather than shortcodes, custom HTML etc. https://wordpress.org/gutenberg/ land:

  • An “Edit/Preview” toggle for the Legacy WidgetWidget A WordPress Widget is a small block that performs a specific function. You can add these widgets in sidebars also known as widget-ready areas on your web page. WordPress widgets were originally created to provide a simple and easy-to-use way of giving design and structure control of the WordPress theme to the user. blockBlock Block is the abstract term used to describe units of markup that, composed together, form the content or layout of a webpage using the WordPress editor. The idea combines concepts of what in the past may have achieved with shortcodes, custom HTML, and embed discovery into a single consistent API and user experience. which can also be used in the HTMLHTML HTML is an acronym for Hyper Text Markup Language. It is a markup language that is used in the development of web pages and websites. block.
  • Improvements to the Pagination block.
  • Iterations on the Query block.
  • Consistency for block variation transforms.

The new TwentyTwentyOne theme is shaping up nicely too, amazing work being done there to get the AAA accessible theme ready for 5.6. You can already try it out via Github.

Discussion

A few weeks ago we wrote a post to bring new ideas for the way out team communicates and keeps up with each other.

The next step is to figure out exactly what and how. First idea that seems to have traction is getting an informal meeting going for people in Asian and Pacific timezones, as most meetings are skewed towards the European crowd. A post will go up about that soon. It was also suggested to make the design team more visible on the Learn WP platform.

We will explore more ideas next week, so join us then!
