Design Team Show & Tell September 30, 2020

We didn’t have much of a show today and instead our meeting turned into a nice discussion on the blockBlock Block is the abstract term used to describe units of markup that, composed together, form the content or layout of a webpage using the WordPress editor. The idea combines concepts of what in the past may have achieved with shortcodes, custom HTML, and embed discovery into a single consistent API and user experience. and patterns directory.

A short summary:

• @estelaris introduced the WordPress core About page and asked for eyes on the content. This page will live in the design handbook. Comments on the Google document are ok (open until 5 October 2020)
• @annezazu posted a call for testing the widgets screen on Gutenberg 9.1.
• @nrqsnchz shared several things:
  • He started work on implementing and customizing keyboard shortcuts in GutenbergGutenberg The Gutenberg project is the new Editor Interface for WordPress. The editor improves the process and experience of creating new content, making writing rich content much simpler. It uses ‘blocks’ to add richness rather than shortcodes, custom HTML etc. https://wordpress.org/gutenberg/.
  • Work on the Video block: adding subtitles is finished and it is ready for implementation so we start testing.
  • And is working on a proposal to add alternate file formats to the video block. Looking forward to a collaboration with the media team.
• @itsjonq will have a Zoom session on Oct 1 at 2 pm EST about his work on the UIUI UI is an acronym for User Interface - the layout of the page the user interacts with.
