Gutenberg Phase 2 Friday Design Update #22

Hey everyone, happy Friday! ヽ(•‿•)ノ I want to thank @kjellr for handling the update last week while I was away.

Gutenberg 5.9 was released Wednesday! As @youknowriad pointed out, there were over 40 contributors, and 6 of them submitted their first PR.

A few noteworthy features and enhancements included:

• The clickthrough action is a game changer for navigating through nested blocks.
• Grouping/Ungrouping selected blocks.
• Snackbar notices.
• Consolidation of dropdown menus.
• Table block placeholder screen improvements.
• Spacer block now clears all floats.

Widgets to blocks

Included in 5.9 were a couple improvements for the widgets screen.

• Add the in progress state to the save button.
• Add the RichText Format Library.

BlockBlock Block is the abstract term used to describe units of markup that, composed together, form the content or layout of a webpage using the WordPress editor. Tightening up

This week several designers spent time cleaning up loose ends and making small improvements throughout GutenbergGutenberg The Gutenberg project is the new Editor Interface for WordPress. The editor improves the process and experience of creating new content, making writing rich content much simpler. It uses ‘blocks’ to add richness rather than shortcodes, custom HTML etc. https://wordpress.org/gutenberg/.

• Removing color from the Inserter category icons.
• Improving accessibilityAccessibility Accessibility (commonly shortened to a11y) refers to the design of products, devices, services, or environments for people with disabilities. The concept of accessible design ensures both “direct access” (i.e. unassisted) and “indirect access” meaning compatibility with a person’s assistive technology (for example, computer screen readers). • Lot’s of textual updates:
  • Tag and Category messaging updates.
  • Added descriptive text to Embed block.
  • Combining “Preview” and “Publish” tips.
  • Audio block preload text adjustments.
  • Improved anchor explanation.
  • Update placeholder text on blocks.
  • Fixed inconsistent references to Settings Sidebar.
• Replaced metabox arrows.
• Adjusted padding on Calendar block.
• Re-enable menu item hover state.
• Updated toolbar image in Docs.
