The idea combines concepts of what in the past may have achieved with shortcodes, custom HTML, and embed discovery into a single consistent API and user experience.

The usability testing results have been published by @melchoyce.

This is great news! Developers are already discussing ways of bringing this block to life and getting it into the wild for more real-life testing and feedback. @luke_pettway also helped with another accessibilityAccessibility Accessibility (commonly shortened to a11y) refers to the design of products, devices, services, or environments for people with disabilities. The concept of accessible design ensures both “direct access” (i.e. unassisted) and “indirect access” meaning compatibility with a person’s assistive technology (for example, computer screen readers). The widget-block interfaces now have a Request For Comments (RFC) doc to gather feedback on the technical implementation of blocks in the widget areas. Related tickets to keep an eye on:

  • Widget-blocks in wp-admin (issue, PR)
  • Widget-blocks in CustomizerCustomizer Tool built into WordPress core that hooks into most modern themes. You can use it to preview and modify many of your site’s appearance settings. (issue)
