Design team 2019 thinking

As discussed in past weekly meetings, this week the meeting on Wednesday at 19:00UTC will look at what as a team projects should be worked on in 2019. It’s really exciting to think how big the team is growing, with this many contributors a lot can be accomplished and this year is going to be exciting.

There are a number of core priorities that will need designers. As phase two of GutenbergGutenberg The Gutenberg project is the new Editor Interface for WordPress. The editor improves the process and experience of creating new content, making writing rich content much simpler. It uses ‘blocks’ to add richness rather than shortcodes, custom HTML etc. https://wordpress.org/gutenberg/ begins those design tasks under that will be outlined by the design lead. It’s going to be a busy, fun year for design.

Triage itself is something as a team already happening and ramping up how that happens is important this year.

Other supplemental non-coreCore Core is the set of software required to run WordPress. The Core Development Team builds WordPress. projects discussed previously are:

  • Handbook: revising, iterating and organising.
  • On-boarding: this is a separate process from the handbook and could also include mentoring discussed previously.
  • Your awesome project here… what would you like to see worked on?

As these projects are looked at, it would be great to think how as designers our work can connect across teams. Where can design help, where is it needed, where can designers learn from other teams?

Please leave a comment for anything you’d like to see as a project this coming year. All suggestions will be discussed in this week’s meeting.
