# I put another new user through the media…

I put another new user through the media scenarios. This time I pushed her through
the regular “add post” flow instead of using QuickPress.

You can [download the video here](http://wpusertesting.com/videos/DC3-5.mp4).

I’m not going to summarize this one. This lady was unable to complete a single step.
It’s frightening to watch, but I’d encourage you to do so anyway. The sad truth
is that this is what some of our users go through (what percentage – I don’t know)
when trying to use WordPress for the first time.

While this test won’t be particularly helpful in testing media, it is eye opening,
so I thought I’d post it anyway.

I’ll re-word some of my instructions, and try another new user this afternoon.

 3. Wow, that is so revealing. Perhaps this underlines that some people don’t automatically
understand the concepts of what’s going on and how WordPress works as a site maintenance
     tool from the ground up.
 4. You know that I’m interested in accessibilityAccessibility Accessibility (commonly
shortened to a11y) refers to the design of products, devices, services, or environments
for people with disabilities. The concept of accessible design ensures both “direct
access” (i.e. unassisted) and “indirect access” meaning compatibility with a person’s
assistive technology (for example, computer screen readers). (https://en.wikipedia.
org/wiki/Accessibility) issues and acknowledge that there’s been a lot of work
done to improve the situation for 3.5. It would be really interesting if you could
run some user tests with people who use AT – such as screen readers and voice
     recognition software.
 5. Thanks

 8. Can I ask what AT software she was using and what her level of expertise with
     that software was?

      * Esmi, I don’t think that the woman in the video posted by lessbloat was using
AT, she was just having problems with the tasks. My point was that it would
a useful excercise to run some user tests with AT users.

 12. Wow that really showed up some presumptions in the UIUI UI is an acronym for User
Interface - the layout of the page the user interacts with. Think ‘how are they
doing that’ and less about what they are doing..
 13. I’m not sure some of the test questions weren’t also the problem, that’s always
a really tricky part of user tests though.
 14. I found it interesting where her train of thought was going during this. She was
certainly trying to find the solution with a lot of ‘maybes’ and ‘I’m way ahead’–
the determination and searching on pages was also telling.
 15. Maybe it’s something that needs exploring looking at the precidence / menu placing
of elements. Media also maybe doesn’t really say ‘what it does on the tin’ for
all users. Just thinking around the test video in these thoughts.
 16. I notice she goes back to the dashboard a few times. That’s a successful ‘hub’
for her, as she returns there and even reads through things. I think at that point
though she’s got herself a bit confused so agree the test derails a bit.

 19. I wonder what happens what a user says to the scenario shown in this [1] tracTrac
Trac is the place where contributors create issues for bugs or feature requests
     much like GitHub.[https://core.trac.wordpress.org/](https://core.trac.wordpress.org/).
ticket. Would be kool to see what patch is really needed.
