Some updates:

  • The tabbed interface for the themes screen that we discussed previously is going to make it into 3.0 for Theme screens only. Gaston’s wireframes were implemented by matveb, gaston & drearmeda in the patch at https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/12412. Depending on how it works out, we may extend the UI to other areas of the admin, but that won’t be determined until planning for 3.1 starts.
  • The Right Now module update went in. It still looks a little weird to me, with the way the gray inner background goes flush to the edge of the module but then breaks off in the middle with an outline. Ultimately I might want to see it with the gray background removed altogether or something, but it’s much more clear now. Just showed it to a wordpress.comWordPress.com An online implementation of WordPress code that lets you immediately access a new WordPress environment to publish your content. WordPress.com is a private company owned by Automattic that hosts the largest multisite in the world. This is arguably the best place to start blogging if you have never touched WordPress before. https://wordpress.com/ support person and she loved it.
  • I’m dying for someone to code a patch for https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/12179 to change the pagination style in the admin on the list-type screens. Currently, on screens like edit.php, the pagination takes up a lot of room, and isn’t very usable. If you have 50 pages of results and you want to start looking at them from around page 25, the click path is terrible. Keep clicking the link furthest in, wait for reload, click the new furthest in choice, etc. in 2-3 number increments. I’m surprised more people don’t complain about it. The Hulu-style pagination would be much more user-friendly and would also take up less room, which would be good for small monitors/laptops that don’t have super high resolution b/c of all the dropdown menus on the same line.
