WordPress 4.6 Deputy

I’m excited to announce my deputy for WordPress 4.6. It’s …

Garth Mortensen

… Core Contributor Garth Mortensen (@voldemortensen)! He’s a proud father and husband, former project manager, and now working as a developer.

You’ll see him around both on the make blogs and Trac helping to manage the release.
Please join me in congratulating him, and feel free to ping one of us with release questions.

WordPress 4.5 Deputies

A few weeks ago, I put out a call for volunteers for deputies for WordPress 4.5.

Today, I’m excited to announce two deputies:

Mel Choyce
WordPress Committer Mel Choyce (@melchoyce) will be a Design Deputy, with a focus on maintaining UI/UX consistency and handling design decisions throughout the release.

Adam Silverstein
Core contributor Adam Silverstein (@adamsilverstein) will be a release Deputy! You’ll see him around both on the make blogs and trac helping to manage the release.

Please join me in congratulating them both, and feel free to ping any of us with release questions as 4.5 gets rolling.

December 10 Meeting Summary and 4.5 Call for Volunteers

We gathered together after the marvelous release of 4.4. Many congrats to @wonderboymusic, his deputies @sergeybiryukov and @ocean90, and all contributors who helped out! See the full transcript for the entire chat.

On 4.4

What’s Next?
@helen is building a product design team that is kicking off shortly. I’m excited about this — it’s an opportunity to really step up our game in the UX space. She’ll be building out a few projects and calling for volunteers on make/design, so watch there if you’re interested in getting involved.

Officially, 4.5 doesn’t kick off until early January, but I’d like to start off with a ready-to-go set of teams. The time between now and then is also great for preparing feature plugins that you’re interested in seeing merged.

4.5 Call for Volunteers
Currently looking for those interested in:

  • Being a Release Backup/Deputy
  • Contributing to Week in Core Summary Posts
  • Working on a particular development focus or feature

If you’re interested in contributing in any of these areas/roles, please leave a comment! Feel free to ping me in the Make WordPress Slack (@mike) if you have any questions on these roles.

Deputies for 4.4

In lieu of picking one “backup lead” for WordPress 4.4, I have decided to recognize two of the hardest working devs in show business as my deputies for the release. They have both been crushing it in Core for as long as I can remember and are essential to making this release run smoothly for me.

Dominik Schilling

Sergey Biryukov

Excited to be working on another release with Dominik Schilling and Sergey Biryukov!

I have peace of mind when making bold changes to WordPress, because they keep us all honest and watch our changes closely. They know the codebase and have the experience to inform us of the implications of our changes related to the back end, front end, i18n, and browser compatibility. I dare you to stump @SergeyBiryukov on WordPress trivia, and I dare you to name a Beta period where @ocean90 wasn’t an All Star.

Look out for them to lead bug scrubs and help me manage the release.
