Found a bugbug A bug is an error or unexpected result. Performance improvements, code optimization, and are considered enhancements, not defects. After feature freeze, only bugs are dealt with, with regressions (adverse changes from the previous version) being the highest priority.? Create a ticket in the bug tracker.

Want to contribute? Get started quickly with tickets marked as good first bugs for new contributors or join a bug scrub. There’s more on the reports page, like patches needing testing, and on feature projects page.

2. Announcements

The final versions of WordPress 3.7 – 4.0 have landed with a notice on each that they are no longer supported. Please encourage your users to upgrade to WordPress 6.1.1, running PHPPHP The web scripting language in which WordPress is primarily architected. WordPress requires PHP 5.6.20 or higher 8 or later.

GutenbergGutenberg The Gutenberg project is the new Editor Interface for WordPress. The editor improves the process and experience of creating new content, making writing rich content much simpler. It uses ‘blocks’ to add richness rather than shortcodes, custom HTML etc. https://wordpress.org/gutenberg/ 14.7 RC1 will land while devchat is happening. More info to come!

`.is-layout-flex` issue in WP 6.1

I’d like to discuss the `.is-layout-flex` issue that some users are experiencing in WordPress 6.1 (and that’s e.g. causing images in the Gallery blockBlock Block is the abstract term used to describe units of markup that, composed together, form the content or layout of a webpage using the WordPress editor. The idea combines concepts of what in the past may have achieved with shortcodes, custom HTML, and embed discovery into a single consistent API and user experience. showing up as stacked on top of each other rather than in the tiled gallery layout they’re supposed to use).

We’re currently investigating this, but it’s proven very hard to reliably reproduce so far. However, we have a theory what might be the issue, and a tentative fix that’s already in GutenbergGutenberg The Gutenberg project is the new Editor Interface for WordPress. It uses ‘blocks’ to add richness rather than shortcodes, custom HTML etc. https://wordpress.org/gutenberg/. Installing and activating Gutenberg has furthermore been confirmed to fix the issue.

We’ve thus discussed the following strategy:
- Roll the fix into a minimal pluginPlugin A plugin is a piece of software containing a group of functions that can be added to a WordPress website. They can extend functionality or add new features to your WordPress websites. WordPress plugins are written in the PHP programming language and integrate seamlessly with WordPress. These can be free in the WordPress.org Plugin Directory https://wordpress.org/plugins/ or can be cost-based plugin from a third-party.
- Ask users that are affected by the issue to test if that plugin fixes it for them.
- Move the relevant code into CoreCore Core is the set of software required to run WordPress. The Core Development Team builds WordPress., and release a WP 6.1.2.
I’d like to discuss this suggested strategy and who might be able to help with these tasks during today’s Core devchat; I’ll also bring it up in the Editor chat that happens a couple of hours earlier.
