Timezones and Daylight Saving Time

It’s that time of the year again! Start or stop daylight savings time (DST) depending on where you are in the world.

As noted by Chloé in an Updates blog post, these are the dates:

  • March 14 – US/CA starts DST
  • March 29 – UK/EU starts DST
  • April 4 – AU ends DST

In the fall, Core contributorsCore Contributors Core contributors are those who have worked on a release of WordPress, by creating the functions or finding and patching bugs. These contributions are done through Trac. https://core.trac.wordpress.org. who commented on the time change decided to maintain the UTC time.

I propose we continue observing UTC, as mentioned by Helen back in September 2020:

  • No more confusion about when exactly it’s changing due to differences in DST implementation
  • Less important, but still a consideration, consistent naming between the two meetings

If anyone is vehemently against it, please let me know. If no one has concerns about this, I will confirm the UTC time and edit the handbook page accordingly (HT @desrosj for mentioning it).
