Found a bugbug A bug is an error or unexpected result. Performance improvements, code optimization, and are considered enhancements, not defects. After feature freeze, only bugs are dealt with, with regressions (adverse changes from the previous version) being the highest priority.? Create a ticket in the bug tracker.

Want to contribute? Get started quickly with tickets marked as good first bugs for new contributors or join a bug scrub. There’s more on the reports page, like patches needing testing, and on feature projects page.

There are several places that have the same kind of documentation for setting up a local dev environment. These exist in various degrees of completeness and quality. There is also a crossover of docs in regards to testing/contributing. It would be great to see if we can combine these efforts and create one central place for documentation for setting up a local dev environment + testing instructions.

TracTrac An open source project by Edgewall Software that serves as a bug tracker and project management tool for WordPress. Project Proposal: Modernise the WordPress Importers

The WordPress Importers have largely been in maintenance mode for the past decade or so. I think it’s time to drag them out, dust them off, and make them a first class citizen in the WordPress CoreCore Core is the set of software required to run WordPress. The Core Development Team builds WordPress. world again. It’s not really possible to summarise the scope of what needs to be done in a comment, so I’ve blogged about it, instead.

There’s a lot going on here, but I’m hoping what I’ve written so far will guide everyone through what I’m thinking about.

Current Status

This project is largely in the scoping/planning stages, with a little bit of experimental proof-of-concept dev work done.

I’ll be working on this project, along with @yoavf, and whoever else we can drag along. 🙂

How Can Folks Help?

At this point, the best way to help is to talk about how you currently use the importers, particularly if you’re using them in unusual ways. If you had to stop using the importers, can you talk about why?

In the not-too-distant future, there’ll be a need for designers, along with both PHPPHP The web scripting language in which WordPress is primarily architected. WordPress requires PHP 7.4 or higher and JavaScriptJavaScript JavaScript or JS is an object-oriented computer programming language commonly used to create interactive effects within web browsers. Hey peeps, I have a PR open with a basic setup for visual regressionregression A software bug that breaks or degrades something that previously worked. Regressions are often treated as critical bugs or blockers. Recent regressions may be given higher priorities. A "3.6 regression" would be a bug in 3.6 that worked as intended in 3.5. testing in CoreCore Core is the set of software required to run WordPress. The Core Development Team builds WordPress.. Would love some reviews/thoughts on the matter!

Just to repeat something mentioned in the APAC meeting, which would be great to mention in the non-APAC meeting:

Work on the blockBlock Block is the abstract term used to describe units of markup that, composed together, form the content or layout of a webpage using the WordPress editor. The idea combines concepts of what in the past may have achieved with shortcodes, custom HTML, and embed discovery into a single consistent API and user experience.-based Navigation screen has picked up again.

There’s a new channel for anyone interested in following/contributing – #feature-navigation-block-editor.

There’s a githubGitHub GitHub is a website that offers online implementation of git repositories that can easily be shared, copied and modified by other developers. Public repositories are free to host, private repositories require a paid subscription. GitHub introduced the concept of the ‘pull request’ where code changes done in branches by contributors can be reviewed and discussed before being merged be the repository owner. https://github.com/ project for it too https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/projects/31.

For anyone unfamiliar with this, the project aims to replace the Menus screen with a block based version, generally for themes that might not support full site editing.

The current status is that it’s behind an experiment flag in the GutenbergGutenberg The Gutenberg project is the new Editor Interface for WordPress. The editor improves the process and experience of creating new content, making writing rich content much simpler. It uses ‘blocks’ to add richness rather than shortcodes, custom HTML etc. https://wordpress.org/gutenberg/ plug-in.
