## Media triagetriage The act of evaluating and sorting bug reports, in order to decide priority, severity, and other factors./discussion

This meeting focused on triage and to save you from the repetition of the process
let’s just focus on the biggest of the issues discussed:

There was an influx in MIME related issues in the `uploads` sub-component over the
last week. [@joemcgill](https://profiles.wordpress.org/joemcgill/) stated that he
and [@tellyworth](https://profiles.wordpress.org/tellyworth/) are working toward
resolution in this. The main ticketticket Created for both bug reports and feature
development on the bug tracker. to focus attention on (and close duplicate issues
in favor of) is: [https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/45615](https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/45615)

Another issue discussed was: [https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/39968](https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/39968)

There is an issue where on the last page of the Media Library, deleting all items
in that page keeps you on the last page which no longer has content. A suggested
fix is taking the page url and subtracting one from the current one if all items
are deleted. The ticket has some high level conversation on those suggestions.

## Playlist Usage

It was discussed that there is a need to determine a path forward for the playlist
functionality in CoreCore Core is the set of software required to run WordPress.
The Core Development Team builds WordPress.. Currently, you can still create playlist
content using the classic-blockBlock Block is the abstract term used to describe
units of markup that, composed together, form the content or layout of a webpage
using the WordPress editor. The idea combines concepts of what in the past may have
achieved with shortcodes, custom HTML, and embed discovery into a single consistent
API and user experience. `add media` button. It may be time to discuss the possibility
of deprecating this feature as usage does not seem to be high. We are in the process
of gathering usage data. [@aaroncampbell](https://profiles.wordpress.org/aaroncampbell/)
has graciously offered to attempt to pull some data from his wide user base around
the beginning of the new year. There were many 👆emoji on [@joemcgill](https://profiles.wordpress.org/joemcgill/)‘
s comment _“we should not just remove it, but move it to a pluginPlugin A plugin
is a piece of software containing a group of functions that can be added to a WordPress
website. They can extend functionality or add new features to your WordPress websites.
WordPress plugins are written in the PHP programming language and integrate seamlessly
with WordPress. These can be free in the WordPress.org Plugin Directory [https://wordpress.org/plugins/](https://wordpress.org/plugins/)
or can be cost-based plugin from a third-party. that might actually auto-install
on sites that use the feature if we can detect it.” _ I would like to open this
post’s comments up to any concerns folks may have in removing the playlist functionality.

## Core ‘cruft’ to consider deprecating

The above conversation around feature depreciation led to an excellent point by
[@mikeschroder](https://profiles.wordpress.org/mikeschroder/) and [@karmatosed](https://profiles.wordpress.org/karmatosed/)
about there needing to be a zoomed out view of deprecating old code and not focusing
exclusively on features. [@desrosj](https://profiles.wordpress.org/desrosj/) said_“
As you all enjoy your time off, try to think about cruft within the media component
specifically we can work to retire.”_ I invite you all to use the comments of this
post to identify those pieces that should be considered for retirement and we will
review in our first Media meeting of 2019. 🙂

 3. From an accessibilityAccessibility Accessibility (commonly shortened to a11y)
refers to the design of products, devices, services, or environments for people
with disabilities. The concept of accessible design ensures both “direct access”(
i.e. unassisted) and “indirect access” meaning compatibility with a person’s assistive
technology (for example, computer screen readers). (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/
Accessibility) perspective, the first “cruft” (in a broader sense) I’d like to
get rid of is infinite scrolling. See:

deprecated at the time, but never removed.

 13. Auditing the list of OEmbed providers supported could also be useful. I think
this is good thing to do maybe once a year to remove providers that no longer
exist, or no longer support OEmbed.

 16. There’s already been an audit of embed providers as far as checking that they
work with the embed blockBlock Block is the abstract term used to describe units
of markup that, composed together, form the content or layout of a webpage using
the WordPress editor. The idea combines concepts of what in the past may have
achieved with shortcodes, custom HTML, and embed discovery into a single consistent
API and user experience., and we found a couple of providers that are no longer
valid. CoreCore Core is the set of software required to run WordPress. The Core
Development Team builds WordPress. ticketticket Created for both bug reports and
feature development on the bug tracker. to remove them is [https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/45399](https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/45399)
and the gutenbergGutenberg The Gutenberg project is the new Editor Interface for
WordPress. The editor improves the process and experience of creating new content,
making writing rich content much simpler. It uses ‘blocks’ to add richness rather
     than shortcodes, custom HTML etc.

PR that removes them is [https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/pull/12759](https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/pull/12759)
