WordPress 5.0 Beta 1 Update

Some keen-eyed WordPress watchers have noticed that we’ve past the original BetaBeta A pre-release of software that is given out to a large group of users to trial under real conditions. Beta versions have gone through alpha testing in-house and are generally fairly close in look, feel and function to the final product; however, design changes often occur as part of the process. 1 release date of October 19, without a new date being announced. I apologise for the lack of communication here, we were so focussed on fixing the last few blockers for Beta 1, that we (I) completely lost track of time. 😉

The good news is, we have a new release date! Beta 1 will be released October 24, 2018, which is… today!

The WordPress 5.0 nightly build has been updated to include the major changes you’ll see in Beta 1, including:

The GutenbergGutenberg The Gutenberg project is the new Editor Interface for WordPress. The editor improves the process and experience of creating new content, making writing rich content much simpler. It uses ‘blocks’ to add richness rather than shortcodes, custom HTML etc. https://wordpress.org/gutenberg/ blockBlock Block is the abstract term used to describe units of markup that, composed together, form the content or layout of a webpage using the WordPress editor. The idea combines concepts of what in the past may have achieved with shortcodes, custom HTML, and embed discovery into a single consistent API and user experience. editor as the default editor.
The new default theme, Twenty Nineteen.
All previous default themes updated to include block editor styles.

You can get a head start on testing by installing the nightly build, or wait until later today when WordPress 5.0 Beta 1 will be released!

As I checked, the new version has disabled the visual composer backend editor completely, is there a plan to have options for switching between backend editors?

Hi, I’m testing the betaBeta A pre-release of software that is given out to a large group of users to trial under real conditions. Beta versions have gone through alpha testing in-house and are generally fairly close in look, feel and function to the final product; however, design changes often occur as part of the process. and in opening existing (sample, both page and post) content I keep getting the message “The editor has encountered an unexpected error” where the “attempt recovery” option doesn’t work.   Actually, the error extends to each new content, just after its publication. When trying to modify a newly published post or page, the error is shown.

    I can resize the width of the editor from the pathetic 600+ pixels.
    
    Again, no issues with ACF and ALL types of Meta Boxes.
    
    All these things mentioned above DO NOT work with either the WP 5.0 beta1 (official), or by using the beta testing plugin. And all these major issues with just 10/15 minutes of testing.
    
    Gut. 4.1 with WP 4.9 has changes that affect the custom blocks made with ACF 5.8beta1 too, but those are minor which will and can by fixed by Elliot (the ACF developer). But things with WP 5.0 are really messed up, it’s like they rolled the Guten. development all the way back to 6 months or so… simply said, they did not just “embed” the Gutenberg plugin into the coreCore Core is the set of software required to run WordPress. The Core Development Team builds WordPress., they “mutated” parts of it for whatever reason. And wow, fresh WP installation 43.2 MB… more than doubled from previous installation…

I was not able to edit nor create a post.

After installing Classic Editor plugin I was able to edit and created a new post.

Using PHPPHP The web scripting language in which WordPress is primarily architected. WordPress requires PHP 5.6.20 or higher 7,1 and mySQLMySQL MySQL is a relational database management system.
