## 4.9 betaBeta A pre-release of software that is given out to a large group of users to trial under real conditions. Beta versions have gone through alpha testing in-house and are generally fairly close in look, feel and function to the final product; however, design changes often occur as part of the process. 1 review

First of all, I want to thank everyone who helped work on tickets the past few weeks.
We were able to ship all of the enhancements that were still on the milestone before
the deadline 🙌🏻.

Here are the relevant tickets with commits from this week:

 * [#33981](https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/33981) – Default Captions Should
   Use max-width
 * [#21819](https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/21819) – Reduce duplicated custom
   headerHeader The header of your site is typically the first thing people will
   experience. The masthead or header art located across the top of your page is
   part of the look and feel of your website. It can influence a visitor’s opinion
   about your content and you/ your organization’s brand. It may also look different
   on different screen sizes. crops int he CustomizerCustomizer Tool built into
   WordPress core that hooks into most modern themes. You can use it to preview
   and modify many of your site’s appearance settings.
 * [#35218](https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/35218) – Parse the creation date
   out of uploaded videos
 * [#41629](https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/41629) – Default to “custom URLURL
   A specific web address of a website or web page on the Internet, such as a website’s
   URL www.wordpress.org” in the image widgetWidget A WordPress Widget is a small
   block that performs a specific function. You can add these widgets in sidebars
   also known as widget-ready areas on your web page. WordPress widgets were originally
   created to provide a simple and easy-to-use way of giving design and structure
   control of the WordPress theme to the user.
 * [#40894](https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/40894) – Use Webpack instead
   of Browserify for build process

Please continue testing these and provide feedback as you notice anything.

## Priority tickets for the coming week (beta 2)

There are two MEJS issues, both which are close to commit:

 * [#41787](https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/41787) – Media: JSJS JavaScript,
   a web scripting language typically executed in the browser. Often used for advanced
   user interfaces and behaviors. error when removing a video/audio sourced

   causing JS errors when certain languages are in use

Other high priority tickets for this week:

 * [#21819](https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/21819) – Use an image size for
   custom headers instead of duplicating an attachment – [@joemcgill](https://profiles.wordpress.org/joemcgill/)
   to continue iterating here, feedback and testing welcome.
 * [#37750](https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/37750) – Cropping custom logo
   should preserve attachment properties – This is closely related to [#21819](https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/21819).
 * [#41973](https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/41973) – HTTPHTTP HTTP is an
   acronym for Hyper Text Transfer Protocol. HTTP is the underlying protocol used
   by the World Wide Web and this protocol defines how messages are formatted and
   transmitted, and what actions Web servers and browsers should take in response
   to various commands. Error when uploading images on PHPPHP The web scripting
   language in which WordPress is primarily architected. WordPress requires PHP
   7.4 or higher 7.1.9 (needs confirmation) – [@mikeschroder](https://profiles.wordpress.org/mikeschroder/)
   tested and left a comment. Seems like a configuration issue but we’ll continue
   tracking throughout beta to see if we can help resolve on our end.
 * [#40175](https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/40175) – Upload Validation /
   MIME Handling – [@blobfolio](https://profiles.wordpress.org/blobfolio/) refreshed
   the patchpatch A special text file that describes changes to code, by identifying
   the files and lines which are added, removed, and altered. It may also be referred
   to as a **diff**. A patch can be _applied_ to a codebase for testing., which
   needs further testing and review.

Tickets with no owner in the 4.9 milestone:

 * [#40921](https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/40921) – Inconsistent Handling

   overflow playlist containers – [@celloexpressions](https://profiles.wordpress.org/celloexpressions/)

   on this one.
