It’s that time again… Please join me in welcoming **Tammie Lister** ([@karmatosed](https://profiles.wordpress.org/karmatosed/))
as a guest committercommitter A developer with commit access. WordPress has five
lead developers and four permanent core developers with commit access. Additionally,
the project usually has a few guest or component committers - a developer receiving
commit access, generally for a single release cycle (sometimes renewed) and/or for
a specific component. for WordPress 4.4. There’s another committer to be announced,
but we thought we’d wait until he’s back from vacation for a proper welcome.

You may recognize Tammie from her role as an adminadmin (and super admin) on the
[theme review team](https://make.wordpress.org/themes/), and she’s also a theme
developer extraordinaire at Automattic. Tammie will be heading up development of
the new default theme, Twenty Sixteen.

The lead developers review and appoint new committers to serve each release cycle,
often to work on a particular component or feature. This guest commit access comes
up for review after each release and can be renewed. **Ella Van Dorpe**,** Konstantin
Obenland**, and** Weston Ruter**, all new committers at the beginning of the 4.3
cycle, have been renewed for 4.4.

Over the last few cycles, both **Aaron Jorbin** and **Jeremy Felt** have been working
through long-term plans, smashing through tickets, and improving the entire codebase,
especially when it comes to tests and multisitemultisite Used to describe a WordPress
installation with a network of multiple blogs, grouped by sites. This installation
type has shared users tables, and creates separate database tables for each blog(
wp_posts becomes wp_0_posts). See also **network**, **blog**, **site**. I’m happy
to announce that both are now permanent committers. Please join me in congratulating
everyone!

 50. [@helen](https://profiles.wordpress.org/helen/) what’s the path to being invited

     get there.

      * There is no singular path to becoming a guest committercommitter A developer
with commit access. WordPress has five lead developers and four permanent core
developers with commit access. Additionally, the project usually has a few
guest or component committers - a developer receiving commit access, generally

Generally it involves being an activate contributor and showing that you can
produce and review code that is in line with the WordPress philosophy. Nacin

      * In addition to what Aaron said above, as much as having more committers is
great because it can ease bottlenecks when it comes to the actual committing
part, what we really could use more of are component maintainers. A component
maintainer has deep knowledge of that particular component (e.g. Customize
has great maintainers), its history, how it fits into coreCore Core is the
set of software required to run WordPress. The Core Development Team builds
WordPress. in general, and typically some idea of a longer-term roadmap. They
also garden tickets in that component, ensuring that all new tickets are triaged
and receive a response, that patches are reviewed, that anything needing a
patchpatch A special text file that describes changes to code, by identifying
the files and lines which are added, removed, and altered. It may also be referred
to as a **diff**. A patch can be _applied_ to a codebase for testing. has somebody
working on it, and recommending patches for commit. That recommendation for
commit is the thing that I find most valuable as a committercommitter A developer
with commit access. WordPress has five lead developers and four permanent core
developers with commit access. Additionally, the project usually has a few
guest or component committers - a developer receiving commit access, generally
for a single release cycle (sometimes renewed) and/or for a specific component.–
yes, I will always do a final review before commit, but I lean heavily on the
trust the commit recommender has built up. It’s also conveniently a focused
and well-targeted way to build up that experience and trust that committers
        need.
      * If you’ve got a [component](https://make.wordpress.org/core/components/) you’d
like to tackle, [subscribe to Trac notifications](https://make.wordpress.org/core/notifications/)
for that component, start taking a look through tickets that haven’t gotten
a response yet, and let me know and I’ll get you added as a maintainer on the
        components page.
