Decision time for features being developed as a pluginPlugin A plugin is a piece of software containing a group of functions that can be added to a WordPress website. They can extend functionality or add new features to your WordPress websites. WordPress plugins are written in the PHP programming language and integrate seamlessly with WordPress. These can be free in the WordPress.org Plugin Directory https://wordpress.org/plugins/ or can be cost-based plugin from a third-party. See Ryan’s overview of what was discussed on Monday. Also need to discuss the menu customiser work by @celloexpressions.
Very brief update on Twenty Fifteen theme from @obenland.
Improved UIs for installing and updating plugins, themes, and coreCore Core is the set of software required to run WordPress. The Core Development Team builds WordPress.. Who wants to help with design mockups, UXUX User experience, dev? Needs a ticketticket Created for both bug reports and feature development on the bug tracker. for each.
@Helen and @MarkJaquith both have focuses for 4.1. Do we have tickets for all of the various components? Who’s helping out?
Accessibility ticket priorities.
@rboren has been documenting various mobile media management issues. Who’d like to help address these? Probably needs a bunch of individual tickets.
Language switcher on the General Settings screen: #29395. Per-user setting has been proposed again: #29783. Who’s interested? cc: @SergeyBiryukov @ocean90
Query enhancements coming in from @boonebgorges. Unit testing and general dev help needed?

We won’t be touching on 4.0.1 this meeting unless something specific comes up (nacin will be on a flight). An RCrelease candidate One of the final stages in the version release cycle, this version signals the potential to be a final release to the public. Also see alpha (beta). for 4.0.1 is expected by the end of the week.

Is there something to discuss for the TaxonomyTaxonomy A taxonomy is a way to group things together. In WordPress, some common taxonomies are category, link, tag, or post format. https://codex.wordpress.org/Taxonomies#Default_Taxonomies. roadmap?

Also with a RCrelease candidate One of the final stages in the version release cycle, this version signals the potential to be a final release to the public. Also see alpha (beta). for 4.0.1, we can expect a release for early next week?

Getting this ticketticket Created for both bug reports and feature development on the bug tracker. resolved is the next step in resolving issues regarding shared terms.

They can extend functionality or add new features to your WordPress websites. WordPress plugins are written in the PHP programming language and integrate seamlessly with WordPress. These can be free in the WordPress.org Plugin Directory https://wordpress.org/plugins/ or can be cost-based plugin from a third-party to be installed? IE, TGM Plugin Activation could be just part of core… I know WP.com doesn’t use it, but theme devs almost everywhere else do. Just an idea.

I’ll be continuing on refining wpView. The TinyMCE devs are going to implement it (or something similar) natively. If that happens in the next few weeks we will have to switch to their implementation. Also on editor-scrolling (DFW merge?) with @avryl and @markjaquith #29806.

Another focus for 4.1 would be on fixing and improving all things on mobile browsers. Starting with the media modal, there are still a lot of relatively “low-hanging-fruits” to be picked and a lot of smaller changes that will have big UXUX User experience impact.

Another thing that needs fixing/updating is the custom menus “back-end”, particularly how menus are being saved.

    Yep, we certainly can start looking at integrating some of the CEUX features in the editor. Not sure about “popup menus” yet. Will need to figure out how they are going to work on mobile devices, how they would interact with the native popup menu there.
    
    As part of the editor scroll/DFW, we can explore moving the Publish | Save | Preview buttons out of the metaboxMetabox A post metabox is a draggable box shown on the post editing screen. Its purpose is to allow the user to select or enter information in addition to the main post content. This information should be related to the post in some way., etc.
    
    Most of this stuff will need some serious UXUX User experience testing 🙂

  Re: menus, other than a couple of minor tweaks in the APIs, I definitely think it would be worth waiting for the Menu CustomizerCustomizer Tool built into WordPress core that hooks into most modern themes. You can use it to preview and modify many of your site’s appearance settings. to fix the scaling issues with menu-saving. We need to completely re-think the approach there, and leveraging the live-previewing and backbone-like JSJS JavaScript, a web scripting language typically executed in the browser. Often used for advanced user interfaces and behaviors. frameworks that the Customizer provides makes things inherently modular and scalable, per my GSoC posts here.

Because I can’t attend todays meeting, some words here:

I will continue my work with the language switcher/site language. Most work will be around #29395 with some APIAPI An API or Application Programming Interface is a software intermediary that allows programs to interact with each other and share data in limited, clearly defined ways. improvements and I hope to do some language pack improvements too (like installing necessary plugins).
Per-user languages are out of scope for 4.1, we need a solid framework first.

- Re-thinking the Customizer on mobile: #28784
Particularly on the last one, it would be good to get a few UIUI User interface/UXUX User experience people working on it, as well as to do extensive device testing, along the lines of what @ryan is doing elsewhere in core. There are several other things we’re slating, but those are the big ones that need attention and general feedback.

#29325 – Use tagtag A directory in Subversion. WordPress uses tags to store a single snapshot of a version (3.6, 3.6.1, etc.), the common convention of tags in version control systems. (Not to be confused with post tags.) in Post Date

I think it would be interesting to start using Moment.js and MomentTimezone to start displaying dates in “format / timezone” corresponding to the site visitor.
