How to Use the Student Report Card inside the WordPress Education Dashboard

The WordPress Education Dashboard is where your place on the WordPress Credits Program lives once you became an active student: your details, your mentorEvent Supporter Event Supporter (formerly Mentor) is someone who has already organised a WordCamp and has time to meet with their assigned mentee every 2 weeks, they talk over where they should be in their timeline, help them to identify their issues, and also identify solutions for their issues., your calls and your course, all on one page instead of scattered across email threads and spreadsheets.

After being activated as a student in our WP Credits database, you receive an email with your login information.

The page you land on after logging in is your Student Report Card. Nobody else sees yours — not other students, and not other mentorsEvent Supporter Event Supporter (formerly Mentor) is someone who has already organised a WordCamp and has time to meet with their assigned mentee every 2 weeks, they talk over where they should be in their timeline, help them to identify their issues, and also identify solutions for their issues.. Only your own mentor and the program managers can see your record.

What is on your Report Card

My profile

Your program details as the program records hold them: your track, your internship dates, your educational institution, your tutor and your contribution team.

Four of these are yours to change. Press Edit and you can update:

  • WordPress.orgWordPress.org The community site where WordPress code is created and shared by the users. This is where you can download the source code for WordPress core, plugins and themes as well as the central location for community conversations and organization. https://wordpress.org/ — your profile page, or just your username.
  • SlackSlack Slack is a Collaborative Group Chat Platform https://slack.com/. The WordPress community has its own Slack Channel at https://make.wordpress.org/chat/ — your display name in the Making WordPress Slack.
  • Contribution team — the team you are contributing to.
  • Personal website — the site you built on the program, if you have one.

Press Save and the change is written straight back to the program records, so you never have to ask anybody to update them for you. Everything else on that list is maintained by your institution or the program, so it is shown but not editable.

My mentor

Who your mentor is and how to reach them — their WordPress.org profile, their Slack handle and their website, where they have shared them.

Your details on the left, your mentor on the right. Press Edit on a row to change it. Names shown are examples.

My mentor call

Your upcoming calls, and the calendar you book them from. There is more on this below.

My course and report form

Two buttons: Open your course takes you to your course on Learn WordPress, and your report form opens already filled in with your record, so you are not retyping your own details every time you report your hours.

Resources

At the foot of the page: the students Slack channel, the Student guide in the handbook, and Need help? — a question box that answers from the WordPress documentation and shows you which pages it read. Beside it, Updates, where notices like this one appear.

Booking a call with your mentor

Your mentor publishes the hours they are free, and you pick from them. No email back and forth about what suits.

Days with times available are highlighted. Pick a day, then a time.
  1. Go to My mentor call on your Report Card.
  2. Check Show times in at the top of the calendar. Every time on the page is shown in the timezone chosen there, and it starts on the one your device reports — so if you are travelling, or the guess is wrong, set it before you pick.
  3. Pick a day with open slots, then a time. The calendar tells you how long the call is.
  4. Add a line about what you would like to discuss. It is optional, but it is how your mentor knows what to prepare — bring a link to whatever you are working on.
  5. Book it. You and your mentor both get an email with a calendar invite attached, so it lands in your calendar rather than only on this page.

A reminder goes out 24 hours before the call. If something comes up you can cancel from the same section, and the slot goes straight back on the calendar for somebody else.

A few things worth knowing: slots closer than your mentor’s shortest notice are not offered, your mentor sets how far ahead the calendar runs and how many upcoming calls you may hold at once, and if the month you are looking at is empty, try a later one. If your mentor has not published any hours yet, the section will say so — give them a nudge in Slack.

If something looks wrong

Your program details come from the program records, so if your dates, institution or tutor are not right, that is worth raising rather than working around — tell your mentor or ask in the students Slack channel. Everything on your Report Card is private to you, so nothing you correct there is on show to anybody else.

Welcome aboard, and enjoy the program.
