Changing WordCamp Site URL

Occasionally, you may need to change the WordCampWordCamp WordCamps are casual, locally-organized conferences covering everything related to WordPress. Change Year for a Postponed WordCamp

If a WordCamp is postponed to a year later, and their site has been created (or built), we don’t have to delete it and create a new site. We only need to change (update) the URL with the help of the MetaMeta Meta is a term that refers to the inside workings of a group. For us, this is the team that works on internal WordPress sites like WordCamp Central and Make WordPress.-WordCamp Team.

  1. Go to #meta-wordcamp on Make WordPress SlackSlack Slack is a Collaborative Group Chat Platform https://slack.com/. The WordPress community has its own Slack Channel at https://make.wordpress.org/chat/..
  2. Ask for help to change the URL from the existing https://city.wordcamp.org/oldyear to https://city.wordcamp.org/newyear.
  3. Once the new URL is created, you can inform the camp organizers and update the camp tracker.

Wrong Year – Create a New Site

If you need to change the year from /XXXX/ to /YYYY/You will need to create a new site.

  1. Enter a correct URL in the “URL (required)” field.
  2. Press the blue “Update” button on the right sidebarSidebar A sidebar in WordPress is referred to a widget-ready area used by WordPress themes to display information that is not a part of the main content. It is not always a vertical column on the side. It can be a horizontal rectangle below or above the content area, footer, header, or any where in the theme..
  3. Go to the “URL (required)” again, and check the “Create site in network” box.
  1. Press the “Update” button again.

The new site is now created. Make sure to follow other steps after regular site creation. If you no longer need the /XXXX/ site, follow the instruction below to delete it.

Wrong Subdomain – Change the Subdomain

You will need to have access to https://wordcamp.org/wp-admin/ for this operation.

If you need to change the subdomain to city1.wordcamp.org/YYYY to city2.wordcamp.org/YYYYKeep the site and edit the subdomain.

  1. Click the “Edit” link under the “URL (required)” field.
  1. On the next screen, update the subdomain part of the “Site Address (URL).”
  1. Click “Save Changes.”

Deleting a WordCamp Site

You will need to have access to https://wordcamp.org/wp-admin/ for this operation.

  1. Go to the WordCamp Site Network and search for the site you want to delete.
  2. Click the site URL or the “Edit” link under the site URL.
  3. In Attributes, check the box for “Deleted.”
  1. Click “Save Changes.”
