Discontinuing Community Zoom Accounts for Meetups

At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the WordPress Community Team began providing Zoom accounts to Meetup organizers to enable the continuation of events when in-person gatherings were not possible. This initiative played a crucial role in keeping the WordPress community connected during challenging times.

As we move forward, there has been a significant decrease in the demand for this service. So far in 2024, we’ve received an average of three requests per month for access to Community Team Zoom accounts. Given this reduced demand and the wide availability of free and accessible videoconferencing tools, we’ve decided to discontinue offering Zoom accounts to MeetupMeetup Meetup groups are locally-organized groups that get together for face-to-face events on a regular basis (commonly once a month). We encourage organizers to explore other options for hosting your online events. Platforms like Google Meet offer free video conferencing capabilities that could suit your needs. You might also consider finding a local sponsor who can provide access to a Zoom account or another paid platform if necessary.
