Asia Meetup Revival Project 2024

This is the home of the Make Community team for the WordPress open sourceOpen Source Open Source denotes software for which the original source code is made freely available and may be redistributed and modified. Open Source **must be** delivered via a licensing model, see GPL. project!

Here is where we have policy debates, project announcements, and assist community members in organizing events.

Everyone is welcome to comment on posts and participate in the discussions regardless of skill level or experience.

Following up the WordPress Meetup Reactivation Project in 2022, we aim to revive some MeetupMeetup Meetup groups are locally-organized groups that get together for face-to-face events on a regular basis (commonly once a month). Learn more about Meetups in our Meetup Organizer Handbook. Groups in big cities that are inactive or help the local WordPress community that are not yet part of our Meetup Chapter Program to join our program.

We have selected 10 groups to be our focus for 2024.

Organizers of one of the groups or part of the local WordPress community in the city listed above and interested in becoming WordPress Meetup Organizers.
Community organizers from the same country and region of the groups listed above.
Event and Program Supporters from Asia who are available to participate in the project.

We need your support to:

Closely support the inactive Meetup organizers to plan Meetup events.
Organize regular check-ins with the inactive Meetup organizers.
Share experiences and encourage the group if they are interested in organizing a WordCamp or other WordPress events.
Onboard new groups if you are a Community Team Supporter.

The outreach to all the groups can be done anytime soon. However, in the first quarter of 2024, we will focus on:

We are working on similar project for reactivation of Indian MeetupMeetup Meetup groups are locally-organized groups that get together for face-to-face events on a regular basis (commonly once a month). Learn more about Meetups in our Meetup Organizer Handbook. groups as part of the current WordPress Contributor mentorship program. @yoga1103 is part of that group.

We are working on a proposal and maybe when it’s done the same would be helpful in this project as well. Further if there’s anything I could help with, please let me know (maybe co-ordinate with the Chennai meetup group).

that said; I have been looking at the Data for meetupsMeetup Meetup groups are locally-organized groups that get together for face-to-face events on a regular basis (commonly once a month). Learn more about Meetups in our Meetup Organizer Handbook. here in India, and feel some other meetup groups from India could also have been part of this list.

Maybe looking at the data in a different manner could help:
1. Group founded date / Date of joining the chapter program – here Kolhapur meetup group, though small would stand out they are the second oldest meetup group in India.
1. Groups that have not had a meetup for over nine months – Chennai Meetup Group falls in this group, but we should also look at groups like Goa, Vadodara & Kanpur all three have been part of the program longer and the last two have hosted multiple WordCamps too.
2. Groups that haven’t yet had a single meetup; here we have four meetup groups from which Mahesana has been part of the program since 2020 while the other joined the program in 2023. A little side note – a.) this could probably be a whole new proposal by itself, events from Learn WordPress Meetup groups could be posted across all meetup groups, so that the members of the groups could also attend or know about them. b.) When meetup groups are on boarded, we ask them to organize at least one meetup within 60 days of joining.
3. Groups which have only one organizer other than WordPress FoundationWordPress Foundation The WordPress Foundation is a charitable organization founded by Matt Mullenweg to further the mission of the WordPress open source project: to democratize publishing through Open Source, GPL software. Find more on wordpressfoundation.org.; here we have the e.g. of Bhubaneswar which has over 2k members and has existed since 2014, but hasn’t had a single meetup in the last nine months.

  During WordCampWordCamp WordCamps are casual, locally-organized conferences covering everything related to WordPress. They're one of the places where the WordPress community comes together to teach one another what they’ve learned throughout the year and share the joy. Learn more. Pune, @yoga1103 and @harishanker have informed me about your project and I have asked for Chennai to be included as your target groups. However, thanks to WordCamp Asia, we have already made some progress as we met Vanita Nandakumar and discussed some plans moving forward. If you know anyone in Chennai who can support Vanita, please let us know. I think Vanita would appreciate getting more support.
  
  As for your approach in dividing the groups into 4 categories, I think it would also help you distribute your resources more effectively.

Australia is considered a part of Oceania for MeetupsMeetup Meetup groups are locally-organized groups that get together for face-to-face events on a regular basis (commonly once a month). I am actually focusing on that region with a similar initiative, so I’m happy to help with anything related to Australia as far as WordPress events are concerned there.
