@tantienhime
Green: Our Great Lakes Area workshop is green: on track. Only thing I might need is spreading the social.

@wpfangirl
Need to promote the watch party in my MeetupMeetup Meetup groups are locally-organized groups that get together for face-to-face events on a regular basis (commonly once a month). Learn more about Meetups in our Meetup Organizer Handbook. and to be sure to attend myself. Working on signing up a diverse range of speakers for 2021, and making some progress.

@oneal
Yellow: trying to get back on track with my input on the #Diversity workshops. working on a plan but will call for help if needed by the weekend.

2. Feb 18th “Interactive, Transformational Watch Party”!

Eventbrite link

We are at 6 registrations currently:
4 WordPress event organizers
2 community members

I would love it if more people on our team attend.

My thoughts of in which capacities you could be in attendance:

  1. As an event organizer. Preferably bringing members of your community with you! (But it’s also ok if you show up and they do not.)
  2. As a volunteer to help mentorEvent Supporter Event Supporter (formerly Mentor) is someone who has already organised a WordCamp and has time to meet with their assigned mentee every 2 weeks, they talk over where they should be in their timeline, help them to identify their issues, and also identify solutions for their issues. people’s topic ideas
  3. As a “model participant” — If we have people participating in the ice breaker and exercises, then if we have all shy participants that day, they are more likely to join in.

Also, the #marketing team has a great plan laid out for promoting on Twitter, LinkedIn, and Facebook. There are a couple of posts for us to share. One today on LinkedIn, and one will be on Twitter on Feb 17th.

@jillbinder: Here is a post from Marketing on LinkedIn from today for us to share, please!

@webcommsat: There are more going out tomorrow too via WordCampWordCamp WordCamps are casual, locally-organized conferences covering everything related to WordPress. They're one of the places where the WordPress community comes together to teach one another what they’ve learned throughout the year and share the joy. Learn more. to also be promoted at WordCamp India. @nalininonstopnewsuk @OGlekler @meherand @lmurillom with me have also been promoting the work of this group at and around WordCamp India, WordFest and WordCamp Sevilla.

3. March 4: Live workshop for the Great Lakes Area, including Ontario and New York

@tantienhime has initiated having a live workshop, the same content as our Feb 18th workshop, for all of the meetupsMeetup Meetup groups are locally-organized groups that get together for face-to-face events on a regular basis (commonly once a month). Learn more about Meetups in our Meetup Organizer Handbook. in her area for March 4th: The Great Lakes Area, including Ontario and New York meetups. To name a few: Hamilton (hosting), Buffalo, Rochester, Niagara, Toronto, Mississauga, London, Kingston, Durham.

@tantienhime: Meetup here: https://www.meetup.com/WPHamOnt/events/276270767/

@jillbinder: @volkswagenchick and @sparklingrobots will be facilitating.

@tantienhime: Some reasonings for this:

  • Give organizers a break from having to find a speaker. One of the local meetups has just gone on hiatus, because they are burnt out. Even we’ve had trouble finding volunteers with the increasing demand on our time.
  • Saves our community members from having to attend multiple events. So far, we’ve been making sure we don’t step on each others’ toes, but this gives all of the communities and all of the members to be on the same page at one time.
  • The members attending have similar issues, not only in diversity, but in language and locality. Seeing friendly faces I think will bring the community closer together if they see people they recognize locally and know they aren’t alone.

@tantienhime: Can the team help take the meetup link and publicize at the appropriate time (i.e., after Feb. 18) and target the appropriate region? Maybe some help from Central in contacting other meetups in our region that I may not know about? Or ensuring that I have included all of them?

@jillbinder I will ask!

4. Learn WordPress evergreen workshop: Creating a Welcoming and Diverse Space

It is exciting for us to get this workshop up! They are an important part of our focus for the next while. Not only helping groups with speaker diversity but also how to be good allies.
