Online Event Updates

Featured Online Meetup Event
Several WordPress Meetup Groups in the U.S. are joining hands to organize the: WordPress “Mega Meetup”: The “Plugin Draft” Episode event on November 18, 2020 6:30 PM. The event, which features several speakers such as Adam Silver, Birgit Pauli, and Topher DeRosia, aims to highlight several useful plugins and demystify them for participants, and will also feature a host of talks and sessions. The organizers promise a fun event with a WordPress Trivia game show and a T-Shirt contest. The event is being held on Zoom, and you can sign up for it right away!

- Sharing WordPress release updates with your Meetup
Want to include the latest WordPress release developments in your Meetup events? Meetup organizers can now join the WordPress Core Core is the set of software required to run WordPress. The Core Development Team builds WordPress. Dev chats on Wednesdays at 5 am and 8 pm UTC in the #core channel on the Make WordPress Slack, or follow recaps of these chats on the Make/Core blog so that they can share updates with their meetup groups. If you are interested in contributing to WordPress outreach initiatives, reach out to the WordPress Marketing team on the #marketing channel. Tuesday Trainings (#tuesdaytrainings) – an initiative from the Community team to train organizers in a variety of skills, is back after a hiatus. Are you looking for a topic for your Meetup group session? You can ask participants to watch a Learn WordPress workshop and organize a discussion group based on it for your meetup. If you’re keen, you can always apply to organize workshops and discussion groups. The Learn WordPress project is officially launching soon! - Organize a meetup event to help the training team
The Training team invites meetup groups to organize contribution events to complete its lesson plans for the Learn WordPress platform. The team needs help with fixing broken images, moving each lesson class heading section to its appropriate taxonomy A taxonomy is a way to group things together. In WordPress, some common taxonomies are category, link, tag, or post format. https://codex.wordpress.org/Taxonomies#Default_Taxonomies., and code snippets reviews. Reach out to the team in the #training channel for more information. - WP Translation event planning
You can now organize WordPress translation mini-events or sessions as part of your meetup. You can find more information on the 2020 mini-events on the WPTranslationDay website. Translator interviews on the Marketing Team YouTube channel will also be useful for organizing Translation Day events.
News and updates
- WordPress 5.6 Beta 1, Beta 2, Beta 3, and Beta 4 versions came out, along with the following WordPress maintenance release: Version 5.5.2 and Version 5.5.3. Feel free to help test Beta A pre-release of software that is given out to a large group of users to trial under real conditions. Beta versions have gone through alpha testing in-house and are generally fairly close in look, feel and function to the final product; however, design changes often occur as part of the process. releases!
- The Core team released Gutenberg The Gutenberg project is the new Editor Interface for WordPress. The editor improves the process and experience of creating new content, making writing rich content much simpler. It uses ‘blocks’ to add richness rather than shortcodes, custom HTML etc. https://wordpress.org/gutenberg/ Version 9.2 (the last Gutenberg release to be featured in WordPress 5.6) and Version 9.3.
- Take the 2020 WordPress Annual Survey now! Results of the 2019 survey are also available. Feel free to remind your meetup group to take the survey!
- The Polyglots team Polyglots Team is a group of multilingual translators who work on translating plugins, themes, documentation, and front-facing marketing copy. https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/teams/. has launched its 2020 Polyglots Translator Research form. Feel free to pass it on to your meetup group, translate the announcement template into your language, and publish it on your Rosetta site (if any). You can also help out by spreading the word on Social Media by amplifying these Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn posts.
