We did some emotional support and shared tips. I talked about our upcoming Diverse Speaker workshops next week and open coaching hours in the last week of April. We assigned team members with roles for the April classes and potential roles moving forward. We talked about the rest of the plan during the pandemic might be the same or similar to our April classes.

1. Emotional check-in: How are you doing?
We talked about how we’re doing and shared tips with each other.
2. Next week’s workshops + potential new team direction
We talked about the upcoming workshops in April:
These will all be held at 6-7pm UTC / 2-3pm ET:
- Tuesday, April 14: Who am I to be speaking? & Finding a topic that people would love to hear
- Wednesday, April 15: Creating a great pitch
- Thursday, April 16: Online stage presence
Two weeks later, I am going to be holding open group coaching office hours Defined times when the Global Community Team are in the #community-events Slack channel. If there is anything you would like to discuss – you do not need to inform them in advance.You are very welcome to drop into any of the Community Team Slack channels at any time. on Zoom (not yet announced):
- 9am Pacific Tuesday, April 28
- 12pm Pacific Thursday, April 30
The last I checked yesterday, we had 17 signed up for the workshops next week! In about 5 countries! (The day after the meeting we are now at 20. 🙂 )
The plan for the rest of the pandemic is TBD. We may follow something similar to April.
Along with this plan, I should note that we are temporarily pausing doing the Trainings for meetups Meetup groups are locally-organized groups that get together for face-to-face events on a regular basis (commonly once a month). Learn more about Meetups in our Meetup Organizer Handbook.. We’ll support ones we’ve already trained who come back to us with questions, but we are not focusing on training any new ones for a while.
3. If you have capacity for this team, what can you help with?
Decisions: Chandrika and a friend of mine are going to do:
- Collecting who has signed up and their stats from the typeform signup
- Sending them an email via our Helpscout that I am composing
- Getting them registered for our Zoom calls
- Inviting them to a google calendar event
- Other pre-items I may not be thinking of yet
Chandrika is going to do:
- If the group winds up being large, organizing the breakout rooms
- If there is material for that workshop, helping them get access if they somehow didn’t get it
Chandrika and Angela would like to be trainers in the future. Angela can help us access the countries closer to her timezone.
4. Reports
@cguntur
I am currently checking HelpScout (mostly once a day) for spam messages.
@angelasjin
Following this post about financial support for groups running the diverse speaker training workshop – https://wp.me/p2U65r-7jw – we decided to offer Zoom accounts for meetup groups running the workshop virtually. They can now do so and request a Zoom account by filling out this form here: https://make.wordpress.org/community/handbook/meetup-organizer/getting-started/special-virtual-events-zoom-request/. When it is safe to meet again in person, we can pick back up on what that post was originally proposing.
5. Open discussion
We set up a meeting time.
Thank you everyone for your flexibility and willingness to change!
