This is the home of the Make Community team for the WordPress open sourceOpen Source Open Source denotes software for which the original source code is made freely available and may be redistributed and modified. Open Source **must be** delivered via a licensing model, see GPL. project!

Here is where we have policy debates, project announcements, and assist community members in organizing events.

Everyone is welcome to comment on posts and participate in the discussions regardless of skill level or experience.

We’ve opened the Call for Organisers process at https://wpasia.org/call-for-organisers/

We’re looking for organisers with some experience and have set some guidelines to help everyone apply. We think it makes sense for community lovers fresh to WordCampWordCamp WordCamps are casual, locally-organized conferences covering everything related to WordPress. They're one of the places where the WordPress community comes together to teach one another what they’ve learned throughout the year and share the joy. Learn more. organising to start off via supporting their City WordCamps.

Diversity is our key focus: We’d like to include as many countries in this team as possible.

There are a few ways you can help with this effort:

We’ve got a tweet going – so help us retweet please!
We’ve also written up a draft announcement that meetupMeetup Meetup groups are locally-organized groups that get together for face-to-face events on a regular basis (commonly once a month). Learn more about Meetups in our Meetup Organizer Handbook. organisers can publish via Meetup’s email tool.

Encouraging all the awesome people to apply

Like any other WordCamp, we need to select a lead organiser who will fill out the application for WordCamp Asia. For those who missed it – we wrote a proposal for this effort and you can read about it here.

@kenshino super excited this is coming together! Just a point of clarification on the organizer app page it says:

2 representatives (max) from each country
20-40 countries represented

Reside within Asia

Does “Reside within Asia” mean there will be no organizers accepted who reside outside Asia? I ask because because WCUSWCUS WordCamp US. The US flagship WordCamp event. and WCUE have always had a few non-residents from outside their regions on their teams.

I don’t have any issue with the rules being what they are, I just wanted to be sure they were clear and I understood them. I don’t “reside in Asia” but am there a lot and would have otherwise applied.

  Hey Jon, great question there. It stoked a discussion with the team. We honestly don’t have a great metric to measure residency here. The residency criteria was designed to give a step up for Asian community organisers rather than be a restrictive one that prevents non-residents from helping.
  
  So rather than focus on where you’re staying, we’re going to expand that criteria into
  - Residency in Asia or active contribution in Asian community initiatives.
  In your (or anyone else’s) applications, please let us know how you have contributed to the Asian community

Thank you everyone who applied! We’ve selected the organisers. I truly apologise for this delayed post.

Some people have dropped a few queries asking how this was done so I’ll list out the main steps.
1. We compiled all applications into a massive Google Sheet
2. Hugh helped (using Central records) mark out anyone that was ineligible from the criteria that we’ve set
3. The selection committee got on a Zoom call with @hlashbrooke (Central member to ensure fairness)
4. We selected 1 representative from as many countries as possible
5. We then took another round to select the second person
6. Once that was done, we realised that we did not have enough participating countries to ensure the selection of an optimum team size
7. We then picked additional eligible people (without specifically focusing on countries)
When it came to evaluating applications from people who were also on the Selection committee, these people sat out of those decisions and the rest of the committee voted.

I’d like to say that applicants that were not chosen should not take it as a any sort of an indication that it was due to a lack of qualifications on your part. Many eligible people were not chosen because we also had additional goals in mind (such as team diversity in culture, language, skills and so on)

All applicants whether chosen or not were replied to.

We don’t expect this to be repeated in the 2nd year as the future organising team should be created organically like other WordCamps.

Learn more. organisers have also elected @nao to be the Global Lead and Nok to be the Local Lead.

Roles were then assigned and we have a proper team now!
