WordPress community in Kota Kinabalu hosted its 3rd MeetupMeetup Meetup groups are locally-organized groups that get together for face-to-face events on a regular basis (commonly once a month). Learn more about Meetups in our Meetup Organizer Handbook. a few days ago https://www.meetup.com/Kota-Kinabalu-WordPress-Meetup/events/255315819/ and we are continuing to slowly build a community. Having a meetup every month shows a continuity and this is a big achievement for a young community like the one in Kota Kinabalu <3

In the past month we were focused on promoting the Meetup group on Meetup.com and Facebook. People are still shy and we would like to teach them what WordPress community is all about and what they can expect when on a meetup or a WordCampWordCamp WordCamps are casual, locally-organized conferences covering everything related to WordPress. They're one of the places where the WordPress community comes together to teach one another what they’ve learned throughout the year and share the joy. Learn more..

Unfortunately, we are still struggling with (internal) communication (due to not-so-good internet connections and different time zones). Currently, we are primarily using SlackSlack Slack is a Collaborative Group Chat Platform https://slack.com/. The WordPress community has its own Slack Channel at https://make.wordpress.org/chat/. for anything organiser-related, and the community uses Facebook a lot too to get the word about the Meetup. Due to some community members being slow on responding and not very active, we decided to look for some other members within the community, who can commit certain amount of hours (weekly) to organise meetupsMeetup Meetup groups are locally-organized groups that get together for face-to-face events on a regular basis (commonly once a month). Hopefully, this month we will be able to start working on tasks regarding the WordCamp – from gathering quotes to better planning the upcoming event.

In the meantime, we are planning November meetup.

The community of Montevideo has been working very well in the last month, they usually hold 2 monthly meetings and as result more than 260 members have joined the group, on November 24th they celebrate their first WordCampWordCamp WordCamps are casual, locally-organized conferences covering everything related to WordPress. They're one of the places where the WordPress community comes together to teach one another what they’ve learned throughout the year and share the joy. Learn more. which is already working on the latest details as a food, swags and schedules.
The event has had great local acceptance, many proposals for talks were received, the goal of local sponsors was well reached and although there are still tickets for sale, they are becoming less.
The local response was so positive that they have had media (local newspaper) attention and a lot of support in social networks.
In this WordCamp you can find a selection of local and international speakers, an incredible team of organizers and volunteers. You will also have the opportunity to network with all WordPress lovers in Uruguay.
With this WordCamp it is expected to increase the number of members in the community and inspire other localities to join the initiative and create their own meetupMeetup Meetup groups are locally-organized groups that get together for face-to-face events on a regular basis (commonly once a month).
