Here is where we have policy debates, project announcements, and assist community members in organizing events.

Everyone is welcome to comment on posts and participate in the discussions regardless of skill level or experience.

Open Source **must be** delivered via a licensing model, see GPL. software, the Foundation would like to sponsor a new series of workshops/training events introducing people to open source. There’s a Call for Organizers here, which includes an event scope and an application.

If you are a member of a WordPress group in Latin and South America, Africa, Oceania, or Asia, and you’re interested in trying out an event like this, please apply!

DeputiesProgram Supporter Community Program Supporters (formerly Deputies) are a team of people worldwide who review WordCamp and Meetup applications, interview lead organizers, and keep things moving at WordCamp Central. Find more about program supporters in our Program Supporter Handbook. who love to vet applications, let me know if you would be willing to vet these applications as well. 🙂 I’m not sure how many we’ll get, so I can’t estimate the workload, but I’ll be looking for help on these between August 14-25.

i will love to help to vet or mentorEvent Supporter Event Supporter (formerly Mentor) is someone who has already organised a WordCamp and has time to meet with their assigned mentee every 2 weeks, they talk over where they should be in their timeline, help them to identify their issues, and also identify solutions for their issues. this event, so count on me.

Thanks folks!!! I’ll probably collect the data into a shared google spreadsheet (not a public one, so we don’t expose email addresses, which you might need for vetting purposes) and then invite you to it, so you can make notes. Will pingPing The act of sending a very small amount of data to an end point. Ping is used in computer science to illicit a response from a target server to test it’s connection. Ping is also a term used by Slack users to @ someone or send them a direct message (DM). Users might say something along the lines of “Ping me when the meeting starts.” you all when I have a document, and maybe we can keep the vetting rolling as we continue to receive applications. 🙂

Yay, it’s great to see so much enthusiasm!

The reason this particular call for organizers has an application form is because there’s an offer of financial support for two events. If you don’t need financial support to organize an event of this kind — and all the content referenced in the event scope on that post could be covered in a longer meetupMeetup Meetup groups are locally-organized groups that get together for face-to-face events on a regular basis (commonly once a month). Learn more about Meetups in our Meetup Organizer Handbook.-style event, which usually doesn’t need financial support — then there’s no reason that everyone on this thread couldn’t organize an “Intro to Open SourceOpen Source Open Source denotes software for which the original source code is made freely available and may be redistributed and modified. So if you’re already super-interested in this kind of event, find yourself inspired to organize one, and don’t think you’ll need financial support, then I strongly encourage you not to wait around to hear back from an application — go out there and organize one! 🙂 (And then tell us how it went, and suggest improvements to the lesson plan, ok?) <3

  This sounds good. There will be a local event in our country called Software Freedom Day next month, we will try to collaborate with other local communities that supports FOSS. Will report back on how it went 🙂
