I really wish WordCampWordCamp WordCamps are casual, locally-organized conferences covering everything related to WordPress. They're one of the places where the WordPress community comes together to teach one another what they’ve learned throughout the year and share the joy. Learn more. Fortaleza happen again (2016 was the first time). Other thing I wish could happen in 2017 is WordCamp Cuba (Havana?). I would try my best to attend. 🙂

1. I would love to have a quarterly hangout or zoom with other WordCampWordCamp WordCamps are casual, locally-organized conferences covering everything related to WordPress. I think this would be cool for all areas of the globe.

Learn more about Meetups in our Meetup Organizer Handbook.. Would love to have quarterly or bi-annually hangouts or zoom with other organizers to talk about what they are doing. What works and such.

3. Find a way to make WordCamp less expensive.

4. Find a way to allow WordCamps to host a fund raiser to send one individual to WordCamp US or EU. (proposal in the works on this one)

5. Repository for WordCamp design resources. psd, sketch, css and such.

  I love all of these ideas! 3 is something we could measure, but I’m not sure how we’d approach it. 🙂 4 is something I’ve wanted for years — I think we just need to figure out how to host the content. Very open to ideas there!

I want WordCamp.org to keep an opt-in contact database. Speakers, Sponsors, Volunteers etc. We have way too many fragmented lists and this could be very useful. I tend to like Open SourceOpen Source Open Source denotes software for which the original source code is made freely available and may be redistributed and modified. Open Source **must be** delivered via a licensing model, see GPL. Tools and rail against Mailchimp and anything like that, so I’d want to explore other tools for this.

I want to get with the Marketing Team and work on a program to let more people know about WordCamps. A great deal of our current outreach only gets to folks who know about WordCamps. I’d like to reach the users that don’t know WordCamps exist.

I am right with @bph and @vc27 and their ideas.

I have so many things I’d like to see happen in our program this year! Sorry this is so long, stay with me:
1. Launch the revised deputyProgram Supporter Community Program Supporters (formerly Deputies) are a team of people worldwide who review WordCamp and Meetup applications, interview lead organizers, and keep things moving at WordCamp Central. Find more about program supporters in our Program Supporter Handbook. training, a training program that includes both the philosophy behind how we do things as well as training on how to do those things. 🙂
2. Further diversify our organizer and speaker rosters. I don’t think we’re making the headway there that we want to make.
3. Make our handbooks pretty and a joy to read.
4. Assess the success of the incubator program and run it again in a sustainable way.
5. Echoing @kcristiano, @bph, @mgd2: better outreach to and activation of WordPress users who don’t know about their local community.
6. Launch a microgrants program that provides expanded financial support to local communities that need equipment or want to organize “bigger smaller events” like hackathons, workshops, etc.
7. Improve our organizer training tools, supplementing with video and graphics, as well as better self-testing per @courtneypk‘s comment.
And TOOLS! I have so many thoughts for neat tools we could add or fix/V2 this year.

Improvements to the Sponsor Invoice tool: I want to de-couple from QuickBooks (we’re growing so fast that we’re making too many entries, and we need to start entering that data in batches instead of individual invoices) and have each sponsor invoice generate a unique page on the WordCamp website, which will also have a “download this invoice” button on it, and also a “pay now via credit card” button that will go to our…

(this is long) Microgrants tool: an application that creates an auto-filled post type called Event (or if we want to, we can make lots of different post types: Hackathon, Training, Contributor DayContributor Day Contributor Days are standalone days, frequently held before or after WordCamps but they can also happen at any time. They are events where people get together to work on various areas of https://make.wordpress.org/ There are many teams that people can participate in, each with a different focus. https://2017.us.wordcamp.org/contributor-day/ https://make.wordpress.org/support/handbook/getting-started/getting-started-at-a-contributor-day/., Viewing Party, MeetupMeetup Meetup groups are locally-organized groups that get together for face-to-face events on a regular basis (commonly once a month). Learn more about Meetups in our Meetup Organizer Handbook., Social) that we vet/approve just like WordCamp or Meetup applications. When the form is submitted, it populates a public-facing dashboard of event applications, including data on proposed cost and goals. When the event is approved, that’s updated in the public page. Upon approval, the organizer becomes a contributor on Central and gets an automated email with a link to where they can submit a vendor payment/reimbursement request and where they should fill out their event report when the event is complete. We create a public-facing vendor payment/reimbursement request form that you can only fill out if you’re logged in, which will include a field for the approved event that the expense is linked to, and then handle the vendor payments in our normal payments workflow.
8. Easy-to-use WordCamp session/speaker feedback form so attendees can immediately rate/review/leave feedback on sessions. This feedback will live on the Session post type, and there will be an additional tool that will send the collected feedback automagically to all speakers connected to that session, a week after WordCamp. (Miami is working on this right now.)
9. I’d like to see the WordCamp Talks plugin completed and launched for all WordCamp sites, allowing organizing teams to more easily review talk proposals and select speakers.
10. WordCamp Console: Per @karenalma‘s comment, I’d like to have a mentorEvent Supporter Event Supporter (formerly Mentor) is someone who has already organised a WordCamp and has time to meet with their assigned mentee every 2 weeks, they talk over where they should be in their timeline, help them to identify their issues, and also identify solutions for their issues. dashboard that summarizes the financial and planning state of each WordCamp that a deputy is mentoring, including some notification options like “Heads Up! This WordCamp is 2 months from their date and hasn’t invoiced any sponsors!” or “Good News! WordCamp Narnia has published their schedule!”
11. Internal sponsor database: I’d like organizers to be able to just select known sponsors from a drop-down (instead of having 20 different camps entering info for SiteGround, for example).
12. Internal speaker database: (this is pie in the sky, and maybe people won’t like it, but) It would be cool if we could have something that lets speakers put their bio in one place (like their wporg profile) and then allow that to autofill the speaker application. It would also be cool if organizers could review what other WordCamps a speaker might have applied to speak at, and what kind of feedback speakers had gotten on previous talks, with some kind of place for speakers to leave notes like “I was just getting over food poisoning that day” or “I was called in as a backup speaker” in the case of negative feedback.

  Most handbooks have been redesigned as of now, but because the community team has multiple handbooks, the designs didn’t translate to them. As part of beautifying them and simplifying things, I might actually say that they should be merged back into one handbook, with sections for each contributor type (meetupMeetup Meetup groups are locally-organized groups that get together for face-to-face events on a regular basis (commonly once a month).   I’d like to see WordCamp Central redesigned as part of this. I sometimes wonder if it should be as separated from WordPress.orgWordPress.org The community site where WordPress code is created and shared by the users. Perhaps all community events should be on WordPress.org for the entire community to see and be aware of. Right now, we don’t really link off to WordCamp.org at all.

So many great things already mentioned!

I’m biased of course, but I’d really like to see charity hackathons (as do_actiondo_action do_action hackathons are community-organised events that are focussed on using WordPress to give deserving charitable organisations their own online presence. Learn more on doaction.org. or any other name) become a staple event in the community around the world.

It would also be good if we could put more work and time into making sure the community team is as globally inclusive as possible. I realise that time zones are incredibly difficult to work with, but I feel that we can be putting more effort into being a more globally representative community team.

So I would liek all the above. But i ultimately like the team to be realistic.

I would like the following things:

1. Handbook SlackSlack Slack is a Collaborative Group Chat Platform https://slack.com/. The WordPress community has its own Slack Channel at https://make.wordpress.org/chat/. channel to allow for async ways to discuss handbook updates and for people to notify when they find something out of date or unclear without worrying about time zone diffences.

2. Support for the non-default events. I think we need to encourage people to think outside of what a meetupMeetup Meetup groups are locally-organized groups that get together for face-to-face events on a regular basis (commonly once a month). Learn more about Meetups in our Meetup Organizer Handbook. and a WordCampWordCamp WordCamps are casual, locally-organized conferences covering everything related to WordPress. They're one of the places where the WordPress community comes together to teach one another what they’ve learned throughout the year and share the joy. Learn more. is and encourage them to try them out with a support system.

3. WordCamp widgetWidget A WordPress Widget is a small block that performs a specific function. You can add these widgets in sidebars also known as widget-ready areas on your web page. WordPress widgets were originally created to provide a simple and easy-to-use way of giving design and structure control of the WordPress theme to the user. for Rosetta sites to have auto information of WordCamps in their locales.

4. Calling the team the Global Community TeamGlobal Community Team A group of community organizers and contributors who collaborate on local events about WordPress — monthly WordPress meetups and/or annual conferences called WordCamps., rather than WordCamp CentralWordCamp Central Website for all WordCamp activities globally. https://central.wordcamp.org includes a list of upcoming and past camp with links to each.. This is to help break the mentality of the fatc there is this hierarchy and it’s all controlled in one centralised location. rather than across the globe. If you are wondering if this makes a difference – yes it does.

5. Continue to i8n the lanuague to make it read easier for non native US people.

6. Support ticket scrub events – @francina suggested this back in Decemeber and i couldnt make it because of timing, but i think it was a great idea and with so many applicationa nd meetupsMeetup Meetup groups are locally-organized groups that get together for face-to-face events on a regular basis (commonly once a month). Learn more about Meetups in our Meetup Organizer Handbook. coming in, doing a team online scrub on the same day would make it more fun and faster to run through any applications we get in if we get behind. I’m not sure if it should be weekly, fortnightly or monthly but I would much prefer that to catch up and have sprints on different part of the community team needs.

7. I would like our team meetinsg to not only be about reports. I would rather the reports were posted before the meeting and we can link them in the meeting but people can go and review them. In 2016, i felt that too often the monthly meeting was purely reports.

This way we can link to teh report and then talk about any news with that particular topic or spend the meeting discussing trends and issues we have seen happening in the last month.

8. I would like to see more support for new meetup organisers and small meetup organsiers. The 2-5 number of attendees is super hard to keep doing time and tiem again. Organisers get dishearten and stop which is a big shame. This is not jsut for new meetups but also for meetups which have tried and tried. I think we need to break the mentality of a meetup constantly requiring speakers and talks and get meetup

9. I would like to see more cross role support. 11. Better documentation on what the change to PBC now means for sponsors and sponsorship agreements. Many sponsors are asking fro more value and WordCamp organisers are stuck trying to work out the boundaries of the switch.

The WordPress community has its own Slack Channel at https://make.wordpress.org/chat/. channel to allow for async ways to discuss handbook updates and for people to notify when they find something out of date or unclear without worrying about time zone diffences.
  
  Can you explain why a new channel would be better for discussion over the current channel? I’m very much opposed to creating new channels when it could hinder discussions. Segmenting off handbook changes seems like it could hinder discussions because you want those changes to be visible to the entirety of the team, not be opt-in.
  
  On the other hand, if you’re looking for an async way to discuss larger changes and to notify people about something out of date or unclear, why not use this site?

  I’m all for good naming, but can you explain how you arrived at “Global Community Team”? If anything, I’d want to rename this team to not include “community” in it. After all, isn’t every team a “community” team? And isn’t every team “global”?
  
  Since merging with the “events” team, the current community team had two focuses: events and outreach. (Briefly, training was part of the team, but it moved out on its own.)
  
  In today’s landscape, it seems like this team is focused mostly on events. It might make more sense to rename along those lines instead of keeping the “community” name when events are only one (very large) facet of the community.
  
  Should individuals from the team want to take on other projects, those might be better off as new teams.
  
  This way we can link to teh report and then talk about any news with that particular topic or spend the meeting discussing trends and issues we have seen happening in the last month.
  
  Keep in mind that not everyone can attend meetings due to timezones. It’s always better to discuss things on this site, when you want global input.

  I’m not sure “region” makes sense here, fwiw. If I’m in Istanbul, what region should I look at? Instead, it’d be more interesting to show WordCamps within a certain radius, as figured out by browser geolocation.

Find a way to give organizers the possibility to choose the correct date for their WordCampWordCamp WordCamps are casual, locally-organized conferences covering everything related to WordPress. WordCamps are only visible on the official WordCamp Schedule list when they have most of it prepared (like venue agreed). If 2 cities not too far from eachother but anyway too far to know from eachother, they might organize their WordCamp in the same month or even weekend.
Organizers should get access to dates of WordCamps in their area regardless of the status the WordCamp is in.

1. Could we have a .wordcamp.org to be a landing page for the local community, listing out details of local meet ups, workshops.

2. Would love to see more hackathons and meet ups organised to help people get a website, get them online. Something along the lines of do_actiondo_action do_action hackathons are community-organised events that are focussed on using WordPress to give deserving charitable organisations their own online presence. 4. Would like to have a Global – Make Community day – where we can fix WordCamp.org. Make the UXUX UX is an acronym for User Experience - the way the user uses the UI. Think ‘what they are doing’ and less about how they do it. better, fix bugs. A day to contribute code for the community tools. I know a lot of developers I know who want to do this but need that one push and one day to get down to helping out with code.

  I like the idea of a landing page, but I’m not sure it should be at WordCamp.org. 🙂 Once we start getting into showing events by location, we get a bit out of WordCamps and into all events. In those instances, it’d be better to have somewhere for “WordPress events” to show.

Considering October 1-2 is just one of the occasions in which three separate WordCamps happen on the same weekend (another weekend like that coming up on October 22nd with Manchester, Sofia and Milan), I wanted to ask wether it isn’t a good idea to get two additional camera kits for Europe.
