Tagregator is the plugin that pulls in social media posts for WordCamp.org, like on https://2015.us.wordcamp.org/social-media-stream

One problem we run into with it is that often people will spam the hashtag for a WordCampWordCamp WordCamps are casual, locally-organized conferences covering everything related to WordPress. They're one of the places where the WordPress community comes together to teach one another what they’ve learned throughout the year and share the joy. Learn more., or the hashtag will be also be used by others for something unrelated.

To keep those kinds of posts out of the Tagregator stream, @ryelle and I would like to add some moderation tools, so that individual posts can be easily hidden by an administrator, and so that spammer accounts can be blacklisted, so that all their posts are ignored.

Does that sound like a good idea to everyone? Do you have any concerns, ideas, feedback, etc?

Yes please to moderation. When we did the pre-tagregator same thing for the tenth anniversary (made by @otto42and @dimensionmedia), we had the ability to delete things. It might have made every item slurped in a post (CPTS for our slurp types), so we could just use built in post moderation.

Which reminds me, we need to go back, turn off that tool on wp10, delete all the spam and unrelated things that have been on that tag since 2013, and put up a more static landing page.

The Core Development Team builds WordPress.’s edit/delete feature, since they’re just a custom post typeCustom Post Type WordPress can hold and display many different types of content. A single item of such a content is generally called a post, although post is also a specific post type. Custom Post Types gives your site the ability to have templated posts, to simplify the concept., but it doesn’t automatically remove it from the stream if it’s already been downloaded, which is important in some use cases:

  Right now there’s no way to ignore everything from a given user, either.

we had the ability to delete things

They can extend functionality or add new features to your WordPress websites. WordPress plugins are written in the PHP programming language and integrate seamlessly with WordPress. These can be free in the WordPress.org Plugin Directory https://wordpress.org/plugins/ or can be cost-based plugin from a third-party and it uses a CPT and if you delete a custom post it is not re-added to the stream, so you have some sort of moderation tool.

Improving that with more tools like “ignore spam account completely”, “add twitter account to the stream” (e.g. the official account for the camp), would be really great!

Definite +1 for moderation here – we had to do a lot of manual deletion of tweets that didn’t belong on our site.
