I haven’t a strong opinion around this but would have a more clear picture around some questions I have.

Isn’t the Global Sponsorship not also some kind of discount? Say if you would sponsor all WordCamps in a certain region yourself, would that be more expensive? In that case the discount could make sense. What I got from previous posts is that if you choose region Eastern then this would only include discount for WCEUWCEU WordCamp Europe. The European flagship WordCamp event..

If because of the discount we do get a few more global sponsors then that would be a good thing. Since the base of money WordCamps get would be higher. So smaller WordCamps don’t need to find/hunt for sponsors that much. And the lost of income from WCUSWCUS WordCamp US. The US flagship WordCamp event./WCEU could be covered by additional sponsors there.

But I do share the concern Matt has. Specially if the discount applies on the highest sponsor package for WCUS. A 10% there would mean a lot of money on the budget. An option could be a money cap on the discount. I do wonder what the organisation them self think about it because I can see different opinions from WCUS vs WCEU.

  At this point, all WordCamps set their sponsorship levels independently from each other, working in conjunction with WordCamp CentralWordCamp Central Website for all WordCamp activities globally. https://central.wordcamp.org includes a list of upcoming and past camp with links to each.. Sponsorship levels depend on the local events’ budgets, and therefore are dependent on venues and other local costs that change from year to year. Additionally, there is no guarantee that a certain volunteer team will organize a WordCampWordCamp WordCamps are casual, locally-organized conferences covering everything related to WordPress. They're one of the places where the WordPress community comes together to teach one another what they’ve learned throughout the year and share the joy. Learn more. in a certain city from year to year, so it’s quite difficult to say predict whether global sponsors will get a discount.
  
  That said, if we hit our projection of 100 WordCamps next year, then it’s likely that the sponsoring via the global program will result in a discount on WordCamp sponsorships overall. The math behind the prices for sponsorship proposed for 2016 is outlined here, in case you wanted to read more.
  
  The thought around the discount was that if it resulted in a shortfall for WCUSWCUS WordCamp US. The US flagship WordCamp event. or WCEUWCEU WordCamp Europe. The European flagship WordCamp event., the global sponsorship program would cover that shortfall, but that’s true of every official community event. I agree that there is a variety of opinions about this issue. 🙂

    Makes sense. Thanks for the explanation. I did read the blog post around the math. Even though it doesn’t effect me in any way, it’s interesting to follow along. I will wait to see which decisions will be made.

Here’s the revised program (with discount removed), which I’ll be sending out to past global sponsors and companies that have already expressed interest in the program. We hope to be pretty-ing it up pretty soon as well. 🙂

@andreamiddleton, could you help me understand these two sentences:

Matt expressed concern to me about the proposal that we offer discounts on sponsorship of WCEUWCEU WordCamp Europe. The European flagship WordCamp event. and WCUSWCUS WordCamp US. The US flagship WordCamp event. will result in less money for those events. If you have strong opinions around our dropping this proposed benefit for 2016

Did we (the WCEU team) miss a discussion about a global sponsorship proposal that included WCEU and WCUS? If we did, could you like me to it, I’m sorry we’ve missed it? If we didn’t, what discounts do we offer if nothing’s changed? What are we dropping if this was never a benefit?

  So just to confirm – with the revised version nothing changes for 2016? There will be no discounts for WCUSWCUS WordCamp US. The US flagship WordCamp event. and WCEUWCEU WordCamp Europe. The European flagship WordCamp event. for companies on the Global Sponsorship Program?
  
  Just want to make sure if we’ll need to revise our budget at some point in case one of our sponsors decides to join the Global Program.
