After reading this post about adding random wapuus as default avatars, I would like to suggest to add the mentioned plugin on wordcamp.org.

Do you like this idea? Want to see all the wapuus on the attendee list instead of the boring grey person? 🙂

    There may be other reasons to not add Wapuus, but if people are manually scanning the list and sending e-mails, then that sounds like a good candidate for automation. I guess the next step would be to see if Gravatar wants to include them, since if they do then there’s nothing else for the Community Team to do. If they don’t, then the team needs to approve the idea and work decide on the details.

Learn more. can set a default overriding Wapuu, which is their event’s wapuu, or the original Wapuu, that would be a nice touch. I do not think it should be a GravatarGravatar Is an acronym for Globally Recognized Avatar. It is the avatar system managed by WordPress.com, and used within the WordPress software. https://gravatar.com/. impliementation as that effects more than WordCamps.
        
        I can envision the functionality being implimented in such a way that it allows WordCamps to choose what the default gravatar is and set it accordingly. Some may choose to use another icon as their default and it would make the attendees list more visually interesting.

    My only reservation about this is whether the benefit of the feature is equal to the amount of time that we’re asking the MetaMeta Meta is a term that refers to the inside workings of a group. I mean, fun is fun — I like having fun — but with so few resources already, I’m concerned about spending valuable dev time on something like this rather than on the tools we’re trying to build that will make the whole program more efficient and successful.
    
    Not saying it’s not a neat idea, I think it is, especially with @miss_jwo‘s idea added in, but how does the benefit of this added feature compare to the benefits we think will come though other work we’re doing now (or trying to make time to do) such as:

They're one of the places where the WordPress community comes together to teach one another what they’ve learned throughout the year and share the joy. Learn more. budgets into WordCamp dashboards and integrated with other financial tools (in process)
    
    streamlining meetupMeetup Meetup groups are locally-organized groups that get together for face-to-face events on a regular basis (commonly once a month). Learn more about Meetups in our Meetup Organizer Handbook. applications for faster processing and better record-keeping (next up)
    
    creating a tool to streamline financial support of meetup group events (hopefully soooon)
    
    creating a tool to share t-shirt sizes of attendees with sponsors (also hopefully soooooon)
    
    … and so many more. We have a backlog that goes back a couple of years. 🙂
    
    All that said, I honestly don’t know how much time it takes to do a security review of a plugin like this and then how much time every month each additional plugin adds to the Meta team’s workload, maintaining wordpress.orgWordPress.org The community site where WordPress code is created and shared by the users. This is where you can download the source code for WordPress core, plugins and themes as well as the central location for community conversations and organization. https://wordpress.org/. Maybe it’s negligible! 🙂 🙂 🙂 If @iandunn or @kovshenin could give us an estimate of how much time we’re talking when we talk about adding a plugin to the wordcamp.org network, it would help us weigh the cost vs the benefit a little more accurately.

If some of the features mentioned in other comments — opt in, UIUI UI is an acronym for User Interface - the layout of the page the user interacts with. Think ‘how are they doing that’ and less about what they are doing. for selecting custom logo, etc — are added, that’d probably add an extra half-hour or so.
      
      The future maintenance would be auditing and installing updates, which would depend on the amount of code being added, but probably wouldn’t be more than a couple hours a year, if that.
      
      In the grand scheme of things, that’s not a lot of time, but it does make me a bit leery, since I feel like we’re already in a spot where it’s often hard to make progress on long-term/high-impact goals because there’re so many short-term/low-impact tasks.
      
      Having said that, I can see an argument that creating a fun environment for organizers and attendees could be just as valuable as fixing bugs and building new tools, so I’m happy to do that if that’s what the team decides.

I haven’t looked carefully, but this doesn’t seem like something that really makes sense to integrate into GravatarGravatar Is an acronym for Globally Recognized Avatar. It is the avatar system managed by WordPress.com, and used within the WordPress software. https://gravatar.com/.. For 2 main reasons:

1. All of the other options on Gravatar are intentionally algorithmic, and consistent, meaning that *every* generated Gravatar is unique and consistent.
2. Wapuus are obviously very WordPress-specific, which isn’t the case with any of the other default options.

For such a specific implementation I think it would be best to just either install this pluginPlugin A plugin is a piece of software containing a group of functions that can be added to a WordPress website. They can extend functionality or add new features to your WordPress websites. WordPress plugins are written in the PHP programming language and integrate seamlessly with WordPress. So we are not limited to random wapuus, we could also use the WordCamp logo for example and the page is still easy to scan for attendees without real gravatar.

Another possible solution could be to add a CSSCSS CSS is an acronym for cascading style sheets. This is what controls the design or look and feel of a site. class to the markup generated by Gravatar.com (like “no-avatarAvatar An avatar is an image or illustration that specifically refers to a character that represents an online user. It’s usually a square box that appears next to the user’s name.” if there is no real Gravatar connected to this mail) , so this can be handled more easily with CSS. This had to be handled from Gravatar.com I think, so maybe @beaulebens can help here.

Maybe there is more time available for the metaMeta Meta is a term that refers to the inside workings of a group. For us, this is the team that works on internal WordPress sites like WordCamp Central and Make WordPress. team now after three years gone, and this could be handled now.
