# Community Hub is a go!

As I mentioned a couple of Team meetings ago, something that came out of WCSF summit
was that it’s hard to find local user groups. This is where the Community Hub concept
has been reignited.

### What is the Community Hub?

At it’s coreCore Core is the set of software required to run WordPress. The Core
Development Team builds WordPress., the vision for community hub will be a directory
listing of WordPress user groups.

We can make it so much more! The community hub can be the WordCamp.org of local
user groups/ meet ups. This would mean that user groups who want a localised website
can have one that is tailored to their culture and community.

No one would be forced to use the community hub, but for us to build a tool that
you would want, we want to make the _ultimate wish list_.

### What do we need from you?

 * Go to https://make.wordpress.org/community/wcsf-2014-team-meetup-notes/#commhub
   and review the wish list
 * Add any other wish lists, visions, comments, queries of the Community Hub against**
   this** post.
 * Share this with any community organisers you know.

### Road Map of the project

 * Open wish list requests
 * Create a poll to allow community to vote on what wish list items they consider
   important
 * Discussion of poll results
 * Create a MVPMinimum Viable Product "A minimum viable product (MVP) is a product
with just enough features to satisfy early customers, and to provide feedback
for future product development." - [WikiPedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minimum_viable_product)
   spec.
 * Community review MVP before giving to MetaMeta Meta is a term that refers to
the inside workings of a group. For us, this is the team that works on internal
WordPress sites like WordCamp Central and Make WordPress. team to review
 * Check what features are available
 * Build what features we don’t
 * BetaBeta A pre-release of software that is given out to a large group of users
to trial under real conditions. Beta versions have gone through alpha testing
in-house and are generally fairly close in look, feel and function to the final
product; however, design changes often occur as part of the process. testing
 * Start inviting everyone

### Meetings

It would be good to set up a Community Hub Meeting.
I have set up a doodle. Please
state what day would be preferable on there and we’ll go from there: http://doodle.

 6. I would love to be involved! Our community has a simple site that runs a blog
and /community site for planning WordCampWordCamp WordCamps are casual, locally-
organized conferences covering everything related to WordPress. They're one of
the places where the WordPress community comes together to teach one another what
they’ve learned throughout the year and share the joy. [Learn more](https://central.wordcamp.org/about/).
and MeetupsMeetup Meetup groups are locally-organized groups that get together
for face-to-face events on a regular basis (commonly once a month). Learn more
about Meetups in our [Meetup Organizer Handbook](https://make.wordpress.org/community/handbook/meetup-organizer/)..
Unfortunately, outside of WC planning, I’m the only one posting there, but we
do get some interaction in the comments.
 7. Here is Nashville’s local site – [http://wpnashville.com/](http://wpnashville.com/)
 8. There’s only on thing I can think of outside the wcsf list:
 9. 1. A list of users by location based on .org user accounts. Would love to be able
to point to a directory of users in the area. MeetupMeetup Meetup groups are locally-
organized groups that get together for face-to-face events on a regular basis (
commonly once a month). Learn more about Meetups in our [Meetup Organizer Handbook](https://make.wordpress.org/community/handbook/meetup-organizer/).
profile pages are nice, but the .org accounts have all the badges and will probably
have more as time rolls on. Example: [https://profiles.wordpress.org/vc27](https://profiles.wordpress.org/vc27)

 12. A lot of the wishlist items seem to duplicate Meetup.com functionality. Would
the goal to be to replace Meetup.com or to be to feature WP related meetupsMeetup
Meetup groups are locally-organized groups that get together for face-to-face
events on a regular basis (commonly once a month). Learn more about Meetups in
     our [Meetup Organizer Handbook](https://make.wordpress.org/community/handbook/meetup-organizer/).
and then send people to Meetup.com for that functionality? I think the latter
would be better to at least start with.
 13. I also wouldn’t really want to move away from Meetup.com. It does a ton for your
discoverability. Those not currently in the WP community won’t go to WP.org to
look for meetups, but may get notifications from Meetup.com that could let them
discover a new WP meetupMeetup Meetup groups are locally-organized groups that
get together for face-to-face events on a regular basis (commonly once a month).
Learn more about Meetups in our [Meetup Organizer Handbook](https://make.wordpress.org/community/handbook/meetup-organizer/)..
I’ve seen multiple meetups move away because of costs and it hurt the number of
     members.
 14. I feel discovery, involvement info, and data and functions that can be complementary
to the meetup.com pages would be the most beneficial by this project.

      * There are some groups whom don’t find MeetUpMeetup Meetup groups are locally-

        useful.
      * My personal feelings is that it should be up to the user group if they port
their site from MeetUp or any location and use the full extent of the hub.
      * My idea would be that if groups want to just have a directory listing on the
community hub and outwards link to MeetUp/Facebook/ location of their choice
        then that should be ok.
      * Ultimately right now, the question to the community is: What do you want from
this community hub? and can be extended to : Do you want a community hub and
if so how do you think your local community would find it useful and use it?
      * What ever we build, it need to compliment us all.

         - Each group has their own needs. Just my thoughts and findings. And I also
feel the best route for the MVPMinimum Viable Product "A minimum viable
product (MVP) is a product with just enough features to satisfy early customers,
and to provide feedback for future product development." - [WikiPedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minimum_viable_product)
would be to concentrate on the things that are not already covered by meetup.
com, then those features can be added on as time progresses. Listings, search
and discoverability through WP.org, and a repository of information of how
to successfully run a meetupMeetup Meetup groups are locally-organized groups

a month). Learn more about Meetups in our [Meetup Organizer Handbook](https://make.wordpress.org/community/handbook/meetup-organizer/).
and how to give back to the meetup are what I feel are most important to
start. I’ll be glad to spend some time helping with this. I can assist Ian

 38. Personally, my one wish list item for the Community Hub is it to be translatable
via GlotPress. Unless that’s available, it will be hard for many non-English users
to adopt the new Hub over/along with what they are already using – and that means
it won’t be a true hub for global members of the WordPress community.
