How is it Thursday already? September flew by; the closer we get to WCSF the more impossible it gets to cram a day’s work into 24 hours, so apologies in advance for Andrea and I being super strung out today.

Learn more about Meetups in our Meetup Organizer Handbook.. Due to the many deadlines related to WCSF,would be great to keep this meeting short. The main meetups thing that needs to happen right now is pinging all the meetups to see who wants to do a livestream viewing party (yay Chris in St Louis for already getting the ball rolling there). We are re-upping our account agreement with meetup.com, and are paying for 120 groups for the upcoming quarter. We are currently at 103, though some have not been active and need a nudge.

Note: Nick Hamze is going to be joining @chaselivingston in helping to moderate the meetup program starting next week.

We could also talk about meetup hub project, but that probably would be better served with a separate meeting next week so we can pull in some of the people who’ve asked to be involved but don’t attend these housekeeping meetings.

  The biggest issue is that meetup.com has no tools for us, period, so it is still painstakingly manual.   Before we start contacting them all, can the training folks put a process in place for communication? A form on the site that people wanting to test the curriculums can use to get in touch, an indication there of who will respond and in what time frame, a page outlining what they need to do in order to run a betaBeta A pre-release of software that is given out to a large group of users to trial under real conditions. Beta versions have gone through alpha testing in-house and are generally fairly close in look, feel and function to the final product; however, design changes often occur as part of the process. (or regular) training, a standardized feedback form, etc? If we get all that in place, I can do a post on wordpress.orgWordPress.org The community site where WordPress code is created and shared by the users. This is where you can download the source code for WordPress core, plugins and themes as well as the central location for community conversations and organization. https://wordpress.org//news so it shows up in every WordPress dashboard, and gets pubbed about everyone in the ecosystem. That’d have the widest reach. But the team needs to be able to handle incoming requests before we do that.

    Thank you Jen! Many of these items are on our list for SF, if I can make headway on starting them so that we can finalize them in SF, all the better. Glad to know we are on the right track.

Freenode is not letting me and Andrea connect over phone tether, saying we need to identify via SASL to use the server, haven’t ever gotten that message before. Keep going without us, we’ll see if we can find other wifi.
