I have consolidated the languages taxonomyTaxonomy A taxonomy is a way to group things together. In WordPress, some common taxonomies are category, link, tag, or post format. https://codex.wordpress.org/Taxonomies#Default_Taxonomies. on wordpress.tv to now use the native language name and script, rather than English naming. As you can see, this cleans up the widgetWidget A WordPress Widget is a small block that performs a specific function. You can add these widgets in sidebars also known as widget-ready areas on your web page. WordPress widgets were originally created to provide a simple and easy-to-use way of giving design and structure control of the WordPress theme to the user. on the WordCamp.tv page quite a bit:

For those that are curious, here is the list of English names, and what they were changed to:

looks cool but you also must have gotten rid of some were those language (tags?) empty?

  Many of them were duplicate. For instance, both Deutsch and German were on there before. They’ve now been consolidated.

  Nope, nothing was lost, and there were not tags displayed (in the widgetWidget A WordPress Widget is a small block that performs a specific function.   I was pretty methodical in how I went about consolidating the tags, and in many cases there were duplicates (like German and Deutsch) but also we had some other variations too (like FR, Français, and French) which bulked things up.

Maybe we should have used the “Russian / Русский” format for non-latin strings, which would make it much easier to scan through the list to find your language?

    Gah, unintended consequences. I deleted that tag (and a lot of other duplicate language tags) which would break those links.
    
    AFAIK there is no way to do a page-level redirect to send traffic to the canonical tag page. Any thoughts on how to work around that?

  Should we possibly do it for all language tags and not just non-latin ones? i.e.tag names like French/Français and German/Deutsch
  
  This may make it easier for visitors to browse, but primarily it will help mods when adding tags, as not all will remember to use “Русский” but if they start typing “Russian” in the Language metaboxMetabox A post metabox is a draggable box shown on the post editing screen. Its purpose is to allow the user to select or enter information in addition to the main post content. This information should be related to the post in some way. in the editor, then it will at least auto-suggest “Russian / Русский”
