Howdy new mods, as mentioned earlier this week, we will be doing an orientation in IRC (#wordpress-getinvolved on freenode) on Friday May 30, 2014 9am PDT Click the link to see what time it is in your area of the world
As something of an agenda (to keep me honest) we will cover the following
- Some of the standards we use for content we publish.
- Approving videos (please watch the video on this page before training)
- Using tags to communicate with other mods, classify videos, and feature content
- Managing site and theme features on wordpress.tv
- Other moderator tips and tricks
As some of you mentioned, IRC is a new thing to you. To participate, you need an IRC client. Here is a list of several you can use, depending on your OS:
https://codex.wordpress.org/IRC#IRC_Client_Applications
If you prefer, you can use the freenode web chat interface here, instead of downloading a client: http://webchat.freenode.net/
Once configured and installed (if using a client) point it to irc.freenode.net and connect. You’ll need to choose a descriptive nickname and then “join” the #wordpress-getinvolved channel.
Please let me know if you have any questions or difficulties in joining the session on IRC. If you are on Skype, ping The act of sending a very small amount of data to an end point. Ping is used in computer science to illicit a response from a target server to test it’s connection. Ping is also a term used by Slack users to @ someone or send them a direct message (DM). Users might say something along the lines of “Ping me when the meeting starts.” me at jerrysarcastic, or you can email me at jerry [at] automattic [dot] com
