I’m gathering some stats on gender balance in…

I’m gathering some stats on gender balance in WC speaker rolls for 2013 compared to 2012, and since a lot of the WCs didn’t use the speaker custom post type, it’s a completely manual process (note to self and others: let’s make sure organizers in 2014 are using the speakers/sessions post types and offer help if they aren’t for some reason). As a result I just noticed some wonky CSS on http://2012.detroit.wordcamp.org/. On the home page you can see the navigation is messed up, and if you go to the speakers page, we’ve got some odd sidebar stuff going on. I’m guessing an update was made to the theme that is interfering with their css or something. @iandunn, could you take a look?

http://2012.la.wordcamp.org/ and http://2012.milwaukee.wordcamp.org/speakers/ also have some messed up css.

Jen, thanks for following up on this. I noticed the issue with the 2012 Detroit WordCampWordCamp WordCamps are casual, locally-organized conferences covering everything related to WordPress. They're one of the places where the WordPress community comes together to teach one another what they’ve learned throughout the year and share the joy. Learn more. layout last summer, and thought it was odd since the theme displayed correctly last year. Wasn’t sure who to contact.

  b) WordCamp CentralWordCamp Central Website for all WordCamp activities globally. https://central.wordcamp.org includes a list of upcoming and past camp with links to each. is still the central point of contact for that stuff, even after the event is over. You bring up a good point, though. We should put a small help/’report a problem with this site’ link in the footer or something. We can put that on the list.

Detroit, LA and Milwaukee are all fixed. They just needed the custom CSSCSS CSS is an acronym for cascading style sheets. This is what controls the design or look and feel of a site. to be re-saved; maybe a Jetpack bug or something.

I think Atlanta has a separate issue; if you shrink the browser window the menu starts to wrap, so they probably need to implement a responsive menu, or at least give it a bit more wiggle room so it doesn’t start to wrap when browsers calculate width differently due to padding, etc. cc @judiknight

  Changing the padding from 1.8rem to 1.6rem on “.nav-menu li a” would solve the issue at widescreen. As for smaller widths, I’d either change the max-width for the responsive menu, or at least add a background color to the same element, so they’re visible when they wrap over the headerHeader The header of your site is typically the first thing people will experience. A couple thoughts. (1) In Seattle we aggregated an info graphic for 2013 on some fun stats, including some around gender in submissions/speakers.   What specific obstacles did you run into? We can probably improve the plugin so that it’s not an issue anymore 🙂

IMO the Session visualization is a bit messy. We use it, but also set up a hand-coded table for our schedules (e.g. http://2013.toronto.wordcamp.org/schedule/) … it’d be nice to have this as an auto-generated page template in the coreCore Core is the set of software required to run WordPress. If you or someone from your team wants to code up a contribution to our WC setup to help improve it and streamline the posting of information, that would be great! @iandunn can work with you on how to integrate with what’s there already.

  What problems did you run into with the [[schedule]] shortcode? There’s definitely room for improvement, but it helps to get specific feedback and suggestions, so I’d love to hear more about your experience with it.
