Why the Pending folder is so RETRO these days…

urlGreetings Mod Squad, you may have noticed a lot of old WC videos from 2012 and 2011 floating around in the Pending folder lately. These “lost” WordCampWordCamp WordCamps are casual, locally-organized conferences covering everything related to WordPress. They're one of the places where the WordPress community comes together to teach one another what they’ve learned throughout the year and share the joy. Learn more. videos are resurrected from the Drafts folder, where they were buried amongst other non-WC stuff. Now that WordPress.tv is flush with new mods, let’s publish the heck out of these old videos, and get all retro here at WordCamp TV!

Here’s how we’ll proceed:

  • For now we focus on publishing any new camps from 2013. Much of that is up, but we will finish the rest of PHX 2013 and also Nepal 2013 if @maharzan has them close to ready.
  • As soon as we are caught up on current camps, we’ll start publishing the older videos, focusing on a camp at a time, so we release them in “blocks” by city, and publish them in alphabetical order.  So we’ll publish all the Austin 2012 videos before the New York 2012 videos.
  • We will also plan to publish 2012 WC videos first, and when those are done we will focus the 2011 videos.  So NewYork 2012 videos will publish before Austin 2011 videos.
  • If new camps start getting submitted in the meantime, we hold off on the old videos temporarily. We should always give 2013 videos top priority.

Scheduling

Because we have so many new moderators, for the time being, @maharzan and I will coordinate on scheduling content for publication until things calm down a bit.  Please just moderate the videos, add the appropriate information, and add the tag: PUBLISH when it is ready.  If we continue to stay busy like this, we may want to discuss nominating “supermods” to handle this kind of editorial stuff, and perhaps limiting the term to 6 months or so.  This would be similar to how other subcommittees nominate leadership roles currently.

About Assignments

When you find a video you would like to moderate,  please “assign” it to yourself by making yourself the author of the post.  You will know if a video is unassigned if the author is WordPress.tv.  Making yoruself the author of a video lets other mods know you are responsible for preparing that video for publication, so we don’t step on each other’s toes.  For now please limit yourself to just 2-3 videos at a time, so we can evenly distribute the load.

Note: If you are a brand spankin’ new mod, you will have the role of Author (temporarily) and can only moderate videos that are assigned to you.  If you are ready for more videos, let an experienced mod know.  As soon as it looks like you have got things down, you’ll be switched to Editor and be able to assign your own videos.

EDIT: Actually, nobody who is a moderator currently is an Author anymore. You’ve all been moved up to Editors, and can assign videos to yourself whenever you are ready for more videos. Thanks for being awesome!

Formatting

Most of these videos were uploaded using the “old method” so there is no way to set a thumbnail for the video.  Just make sure you have information in the following fields in the post editor.

It is a markup language that is used in the development of web pages and websites.) here
