Description: Create a list of all the types of WP-specific events we ought to be promoting/supporting (WordCamps, meetupsMeetup Meetup groups are locally-organized groups that get together for face-to-face events on a regular basis (commonly once a month). Learn more about Meetups in our Meetup Organizer Handbook., hackathons, new user training, theme workshops, devcamps, workalongs, help clinics, etc), identify what each type of event needs to be successful, and create prioritized list for each of how we can provide best support.

Length of Project: Short term. Coming up with this initial list is mostly a quick brainstorming and documentation exercise. Say maybe a week or two to complete this project, then after this is done, we can create groups to work on each individual event type.

Experience Required: True immersion in the WordPress community overall, not just one part of it. Addiction to WP community news, awareness of non-WordCampWordCamp WordCamps are casual, locally-organized conferences covering everything related to WordPress. They're one of the places where the WordPress community comes together to teach one another what they’ve learned throughout the year and share the joy. Learn more. events.

  You might want to wait for the other opportunity posts to appear today, there are other events where those experiences may be more useful. Only volunteer for one thing. No one will be assigned to more than one group, period.

Hey Jane! You made a great list already, and if I were to prioritize them, I’d say:

The method behind my thought of having WordCamps third, and not first, which was my original choice, is that the “Grass Roots” groups can help generate the critical mass needed to support a larger event successfully, like a WordCampWordCamp WordCamps are casual, locally-organized conferences covering everything related to WordPress. They're one of the places where the WordPress community comes together to teach one another what they’ve learned throughout the year and share the joy. Learn more.. Here in Charlotte, NC, we used to have four or more active WordPress MeetUps, and now it’s down to one… (mine, sadly) If we can get more local groups like MeetUps in a specific x-mile radius, it helps plant the seeds for a successful WordCamp. Plus, the more MeetUps in a region, there will be a greater buzz and community in that region to meet the needs of the WP Community.

I know there are other pros/cons on a different ordering, but here’s just one suggestion!

  Oh yeah… The other thing I’m curious about, but not sure if it belong here, is how to integrate WordPress into other events. I help organize business workshops and hackathons, and have frequently done sessions on WordPress at these events. Would those fall under this categorization?

    I have a feeling this might fall outside the scope of this group. WordCamps, for example, must be solely WordPress events; a WordPress section of a larger conference such as BarCamp cannot be called WordCampWordCamp WordCamps are casual, locally-organized conferences covering everything related to WordPress.
