Or: Making Matrix Yours!
If you’re coming from SlackSlack Slack is a Collaborative Group Chat Platform https://slack.com/. The WordPress community has its own Slack Channel at https://make.wordpress.org/chat/., you might have been using channel grouping which might have looked like this:
You might have noticed, that clients like Element don’t seem to support this. Instead, Matrix has support for something called Spaces.
Adding a Space
First, click the plus in the sidebarSidebar A sidebar in WordPress is referred to a widget-ready area used by WordPress themes to display information that is not a part of the main content. It is not always a vertical column on the side. It can be a horizontal rectangle below or above the content area, footer, header, or any where in the theme. of Element to create a space. Spaces are a Matrix feature, so already a number of clients support it. If you create a space in one client, it will be visible in other clients.
This will open up this dialog. Here you’ll select private since you’ll want to organize this for yourself:
Now, we’ll set a title and icon:
Adding Rooms to a Space
Finally, you’ll be prompted which rooms you want to add.
And the Space has been created and is accessible via the icon on the left.
Space Home
Here is a screenshot of a space with some more rooms. This view is actually called “Space Home:”
As soon as you click a room, that room will by default open if you click the space. If you ever want to go back to this overview page, go to Space Home like this:
