Chatting in Matrix using Element
One option for joining the WordPress.orgWordPress.org The community site where WordPress code is created and shared by the users. This is where you can download the source code for WordPress core, plugins and themes as well as the central location for community conversations and organization. https://wordpress.org/ Matrix is by using the Element web client on Desktop. Since this is an open sourceOpen Source Open Source denotes software for which the original source code is made freely available and may be redistributed and modified. Open Source **must be** delivered via a licensing model, see GPL. web app that can be self-hosted, you have some options on how to use it.
- Download the Desktop app for Windows, Mac, or Linux
- Our self-hosted Element Web version matrix.wordpress.net (recommended)
- Other Official instances of Element Web such as app.element.io, or develop.element.io (their “latest nightly” version)
Be aware, that depending on your use case, you might not need a dedicated app or log in using Element. You might just join want to single rooms through a P2 chat page.
Login Process
Open this to see the extra steps necessary when using not our self-hosted version.
On this Welcome screen, press “sign in”. We’ll be using your WordPress.org account, so you don’t have to create one.
Next you need to change the Homeserver, by clicking Edit:
Now enter community.wordpress.org

When you go to matrix.wordpress.net, or you’ve navigated the previous steps, you’ll get the option to Continue with WordPress.org:
Now, you’ll be taken to the WordPress.org Authorization page. Please check the URLURL A specific web address of a website or web page on the Internet, such as a website’s URL www.wordpress.org but don’t modify it! It should say login.wordpress.org

And this will then bring you to this screen where you need to confirm once more that you’ll be logging into Matrix:

Tips for Configuring Element
Stop Notifications for a Room
If you want to mute a channel (like on SlackSlack Slack is a Collaborative Group Chat Platform https://slack.com/. The WordPress community has its own Slack Channel at https://make.wordpress.org/chat/.), you need to make it “Low Priority”:

Click the three dots on the “Rooms” line:
Then you change some options, like sort order:
