The concept of accessible design ensures both \u201cdirect access\u201d (i.e. unassisted) and \u201cindirect access\u201d meaning compatibility with a person\u2019s assistive technology (for example, computer screen readers). (https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Accessibility)<\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0Team meeting that happens on alternate Thursday in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.slack.com\/archives\/C02RP4X03\">#accessibility.<\/a>\u00a0You can read the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.slack.com\/archives\/C02RP4X03\/p1787842805214169\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">full transcript<\/a>\u00a0here or see the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/make.wordpress.org\/meetings\/\">full meeting schedule<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\ud83d\udce3 Announcements<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/make.wordpress.org\/accessibility\/2026\/08\/21\/help-shape-the-accessibility-lab-plugin\/\">Help shape the Accessibility Lab plugin<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/news\/2026\/08\/mary-lou\/\">WordPress 7.1 \u201cMary Lou\u201d<\/a>\u00a0was released on August 19th as scheduled!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/make.wordpress.org\/core\/2026\/08\/12\/wordpress-7-2-call-for-volunteers\/\">A call for volunteers<\/a>\u00a0was published for WP 7.2.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Accessibility Labs <span tabindex='0' class='glossary-item-container'>Plugin<span class='glossary-item-hidden-content'><span class='glossary-item-header'>Plugin<\/span> <span class='glossary-item-description'>A plugin is a piece of software containing a group of functions that can be added to a WordPress website. They can extend functionality or add new features to your WordPress websites. WordPress plugins are written in the PHP programming language and integrate seamlessly with WordPress. These can be free in the WordPress.org Plugin Directory <a href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/plugins\/\">https:\/\/wordpress.org\/plugins\/<\/a> or can be cost-based plugin from a third-party.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Discussed setting up separate planning meetings for the Accessibility Labs plugin to focus on its direction, implementation, and initial groundwork.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Agreed that the regular bi-weekly team chat should remain focused on team updates, while the Labs discussion can happen during alternate weeks as a separate meeting.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The first meeting will help determine the scope and frequency of future discussions; meeting every two weeks may not be necessary.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Participants were asked to share their availability for the first async planning meeting. Initial participants tagged: <a href=\"https:\/\/profiles.wordpress.org\/areziaal\/\">troychaplin<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/profiles.wordpress.org\/williampatton\/\">williampatton<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/profiles.wordpress.org\/aduth\/\">aduth<\/a>, ,<a href=\"https:\/\/profiles.wordpress.org\/annezazu\/\" class=\"mention\"><span class=\"mentions-prefix\">@<\/span>annezazu<\/a> and others who would like to be involved.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>WordPress <span tabindex='0' class='glossary-item-container'>Core<span class='glossary-item-hidden-content'><span class='glossary-item-header'>Core<\/span> <span class='glossary-item-description'>Core is the set of software required to run WordPress. The Core Development Team builds WordPress.<\/span><\/span><\/span> &amp; <span tabindex='0' class='glossary-item-container'>Block<span class='glossary-item-hidden-content'><span class='glossary-item-header'>Block<\/span> <span class='glossary-item-description'>Block is the abstract term used to describe units of markup that, composed together, form the content or layout of a webpage using the WordPress editor. The idea combines concepts of what in the past may have achieved with shortcodes, custom HTML, and embed discovery into a single consistent API and user experience.<\/span><\/span><\/span> Editor<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>WordPress 7.1 was released last week, and planning is now underway for 7.1.1 and 7.2.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Several items are already milestoned for 7.2, with planning progressing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Accessibility-Ready Program<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The first theme has successfully passed the updated accessibility-ready guidelines.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A proposal is being drafted to improve how the\u00a0<code>accessibility-ready<\/code>\u00a0tag is moderated in the Theme Directory and provide better tools for managing the program. Feedback is welcome. The proposal is based on discussions held during WCUS <span tabindex='0' class='glossary-item-container'>Contributor Day<span class='glossary-item-hidden-content'><span class='glossary-item-header'>Contributor Day<\/span> <span class='glossary-item-description'>Contributor Days are standalone days, frequently held before or after WordCamps but they can also happen at any time.
