WordPress 7.0 will drop support for\u00a0<strong>PHP 7.2 and 7.3<\/strong>, in line with long-term maintenance and security goals. Contributors are encouraged to review the <a href=\"https:\/\/make.wordpress.org\/core\/2026\/01\/09\/dropping-support-for-php-7-2-and-7-3\/\">post<\/a> for full details and timelines.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Working Group Updates<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.slack.com\/archives\/C02RP4X03\/p1769699299817729\">Documentation<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Work continues on expanding and improving the <span tabindex='0' class='glossary-item-container'>Accessibility<span class='glossary-item-hidden-content'><span class='glossary-item-header'>Accessibility<\/span> <span class='glossary-item-description'>Accessibility (commonly shortened to a11y) refers to the design of products, devices, services, or environments for people with disabilities. The concept of accessible design ensures both \u201cdirect access\u201d (i.e. unassisted) and \u201cindirect access\u201d meaning compatibility with a person\u2019s assistive technology (for example, computer screen readers). (https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Accessibility)<\/span><\/span><\/span> documentation on\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/wpaccessibility.org\/\"><strong>wpaccessibility.org<\/strong>.<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/profiles.wordpress.org\/joedolson\/\" class=\"mention\"><span class=\"mentions-prefix\">@<\/span>joedolson<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/profiles.wordpress.org\/alh0319\/\" class=\"mention\"><span class=\"mentions-prefix\">@<\/span>alh0319<\/a> did a great job. Recent highlights include: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>New documentation published on providing help for people filling out forms, shared by Rian Rietveld:<br><a>https:\/\/wpaccessibility.org\/docs\/topics\/forms\/help\/<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Documentation related to web forms is nearly complete.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Feedback was received on the menu and navigation structure of the documentation site, and improvements are currently in progress.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>An updated menu and navigation setup will be published soon.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.slack.com\/archives\/C02RP4X03\/p1769699784559159\">General Updates<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/profiles.wordpress.org\/joedolson\/\" class=\"mention\"><span class=\"mentions-prefix\">@<\/span>joedolson<\/a> shared updates related to the upcoming WordPress <span tabindex='0' class='glossary-item-container'>beta<span class='glossary-item-hidden-content'><span class='glossary-item-header'>Beta<\/span> <span class='glossary-item-description'>A pre-release of software that is given out to a large group of users to trial under real conditions. Beta versions have gone through alpha testing in-house and are generally fairly close in look, feel and function to the final product; however, design changes often occur as part of the process.<\/span><\/span><\/span> period. The deadline is approaching, and enhancements need to be committed ahead of the beta. Additional help is welcome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.slack.com\/archives\/C02RP4X03\/p1769699956056149\">Design<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/profiles.wordpress.org\/joedolson\/\" class=\"mention\"><span class=\"mentions-prefix\">@<\/span>joedolson<\/a> shared that design updates to WordPress <span tabindex='0' class='glossary-item-container'>core<span class='glossary-item-hidden-content'><span class='glossary-item-header'>Core<\/span> <span class='glossary-item-description'>Core is the set of software required to run WordPress. The Core Development Team builds WordPress.<\/span><\/span><\/span> are in progress and will require accessibility review. While the basics are expected to be fine, there may be many details to check due to major <span tabindex='0' class='glossary-item-container'>CSS<span class='glossary-item-hidden-content'><span class='glossary-item-header'>CSS<\/span> <span class='glossary-item-description'>CSS is an acronym for cascading style sheets. This is what controls the design or look and feel of a site.<\/span><\/span><\/span> changes and the size of the admin interface.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.slack.com\/archives\/C02RP4X03\/p1769699866888199\">Themes<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/profiles.wordpress.org\/joedolson\/\" class=\"mention\"><span class=\"mentions-prefix\">@<\/span>joedolson<\/a> shared that he and <a href=\"https:\/\/profiles.wordpress.org\/alh0319\/\" class=\"mention\"><span class=\"mentions-prefix\">@<\/span>alh0319<\/a> presented updated accessibility-ready guidelines to the Themes team on Tuesday.
