The concept of accessible design ensures both \u201cdirect access\u201d (i.e. unassisted) and \u201cindirect access\u201d meaning compatibility with a person\u2019s assistive technology (for example, computer screen readers). Publishing information about <span tabindex='0' class='glossary-item-container'>WCAG<span class='glossary-item-hidden-content'><span class='glossary-item-header'>WCAG<\/span> <span class='glossary-item-description'>WCAG is an acronym for Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. These guidelines are helping make sure the internet is accessible to all people no matter how they would need to access the internet (screen-reader, keyboard only, etc) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/WCAG21\/\">https:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/WCAG21\/<\/a>.<\/span><\/span><\/span> 2.1 changes. Track progress in the <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1d-3yZuh6xdpZCMwB03u-EdmUnTQlmk18ap1uWNNZPxo\/edit?pli=1#\">WCAG 2.1 WP Update Google Document<\/a>.<\/li><li>Media: <a href=\"https:\/\/core.trac.wordpress.org\/ticket\/47120\">#47120<\/a> will be committed before <span tabindex='0' class='glossary-item-container'>beta<span class='glossary-item-hidden-content'><span class='glossary-item-header'>Beta<\/span> <span class='glossary-item-description'>A pre-release of software that is given out to a large group of users to trial under real conditions. Beta versions have gone through alpha testing in-house and are generally fairly close in look, feel and function to the final product; however, design changes often occur as part of the process.<\/span><\/span><\/span> 3; <a href=\"https:\/\/core.trac.wordpress.org\/ticket\/50105\">#50105<\/a> will be deferred to 5.8-early. It\u2019s almost there, but it\u2019s a major <span tabindex='0' class='glossary-item-container'>UI<span class='glossary-item-hidden-content'><span class='glossary-item-header'>UI<\/span> <span class='glossary-item-description'>UI is an acronym for User Interface - the layout of the page the user interacts with. Think \u2018how are they doing that\u2019 and less about what they are doing.<\/span><\/span><\/span> change that would require a significant push to have ready by Tuesday, and should really sit in <span tabindex='0' class='glossary-item-container'>core<span class='glossary-item-hidden-content'><span class='glossary-item-header'>Core<\/span> <span class='glossary-item-description'>Core is the set of software required to run WordPress. The Core Development Team builds WordPress.<\/span><\/span><\/span> for longer. Joe Will probably commit as soon as alpha opens for 5.8, however. For us, this is the team that works on internal WordPress sites like WordCamp Central and Make WordPress.<\/span><\/span><\/span>: a Meta <span tabindex='0' class='glossary-item-container'>TRAC<span class='glossary-item-hidden-content'><span class='glossary-item-header'>Trac<\/span> <span class='glossary-item-description'>Trac is the place where contributors create issues for bugs or feature requests much like GitHub.<a href=\"https:\/\/core.trac.wordpress.org\/\">https:\/\/core.trac.wordpress.org\/<\/a>.<\/span><\/span><\/span> ticket worth checking out: <a href=\"https:\/\/meta.trac.wordpress.org\/ticket\/5589\">Category archives pages : accessibility improvement (HTML)<\/a><\/li><li>General: during the bug scrub, we reviewed the five tickets with milestone 5.7 that are still open. 16 tickets in the milestone have been closed.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Open floor<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>WordPress 5.8 is open for development, now is a good time to start coming up with accessibility goals.<\/li><li>The next Learn working group meeting is being held in\u00a0#training on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeanddate.com\/worldclock\/fixedtime.html?iso=20210218T1900\"><abbr class=\"date\" title=\"2021-02-18T19:00:00+00:00\">Thursday, 18 February 2021, 19:00 UTC<\/abbr><\/a>.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/profiles.wordpress.org\/mgifford\/\" class=\"mention\"><span class=\"mentions-prefix\">@<\/span>mgifford<\/a> will be giving a presentation at the DC Drupal <span tabindex='0' class='glossary-item-container'>meetup<span class='glossary-item-hidden-content'><span class='glossary-item-header'>Meetup<\/span> <span class='glossary-item-description'>All local\/regional gatherings that are officially a part of the WordPress world but are not WordCamps are organized through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.meetup.com\/\">https:\/\/www.meetup.com\/<\/a>.
