Update on WP 5.3 Progress<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

@<\/span>audrasjb<\/a> reported that reactions from the French slackSlack<\/span> Slack is a Collaborative Group Chat Platform https:\/\/slack.com\/<\/a>. The WordPress community has its own Slack Channel at https:\/\/make.wordpress.org\/chat\/<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/span> team on admin CSSCSS<\/span> CSS is an acronym for cascading style sheets. This is what controls the design or look and feel of a site.<\/span><\/span><\/span> changes have been pretty good. Feedback also from Jetpack\/WooCommerce teams who\u2019ve fixed a few minor things, but reactions generally positive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

@<\/span>afercia<\/a> reported that an un-named large pluginPlugin<\/span> A plugin is a piece of software containing a group of functions that can be added to a WordPress website. They can extend functionality or add new features to your WordPress websites. WordPress plugins are written in the PHP programming language and integrate seamlessly with WordPress. These can be free in the WordPress.org Plugin Directory https:\/\/wordpress.org\/plugins\/<\/a> or can be cost-based plugin from a third-party.<\/span><\/span><\/span> had to fix a few minor glitches related to custom form controls. Also noted that these changes cause some issues with custom selects such as select2 or chosen. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Continuing work on CSS: #48420<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Ticket to standardize form control heights and alignments. Patch already exists, but didn\u2019t make it in time for RCRelease Candidate<\/span> A beta version of software with the potential to be a final product, which is ready to release unless significant bugs emerge.<\/span><\/span><\/span>. These problems have existed since WP 3.8; in WP 3.7 form controls were aligned consistently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Need some feedback from design to make decisions about inconsistent border radii and GutenbergGutenberg<\/span> The Gutenberg project is the new Editor Interface for WordPress. The editor improves the process and experience of creating new content, making writing rich content much simpler. It uses \u2018blocks\u2019 to add richness rather than shortcodes, custom HTML etc.\rhttps:\/\/wordpress.org\/gutenberg\/<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/span>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Agreed to schedule this for 5.4-early, with the possibility that we\u2019d try to push it into 5.3.1. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Update on AccessibilityAccessibility<\/span> Accessibility (commonly shortened to a11y) refers to the design of products, devices, services, or environments for people with disabilities. The concept of accessible design ensures both \u201cdirect access\u201d (i.e. unassisted) and \u201cindirect access\u201d meaning compatibility with a person\u2019s assistive technology (for example, computer screen readers). @<\/span>nataliemac<\/a> Reported that @<\/span>rianrietveld<\/a> and @<\/span>nrqsnchz<\/a> would be helping her in her workshop, which is just finishing up prep.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

@<\/span>nrqsnchz<\/a> reported that he\u2019s got a plan for format and activities at the contributor table. @<\/span>nataliemac<\/a> will also be at the contributor table. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Proposal: cancel team meeting for 1 November<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

We\u2019ve routinely cancelled meetings that occur during WCEU or WCUS, and we\u2019ll do that for this date as well. Many members would be unable to attend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Proposal: Change team reps at meeting 8 November<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Team reps haven\u2019t changed since October 2018; we\u2019ll plan to vote in reps at meeting on 8 November. @<\/span>audrasjb<\/a> will make a post to announce this. Existing reps are still eligible to run; there are no term limits. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Open Floor<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

@<\/span>afercia<\/a> would like to remove Segoe UIUI<\/span> UI is an acronym for User Interface - the layout of the page the user interacts with. Think \u2018how are they doing that\u2019 and less about what they are doing.<\/span><\/span><\/span> from the system fonts stack per #48423<\/a>. Reasoning: Segoe UI has significantly different leading boundaries from other fonts, creating layout issues in vertically centered contexts like input fields.<\/p>\n
