Test Chat Summary, March 2

About the testers: we still get new testers who want to join the group, we have 54 testers now, about 20 of them join the tests every week actively. So that’s going well.

Last week we tested the patches for:

  • #31143 – Login error handling accessibilityAccessibility Accessibility (commonly shortened to a11y) refers to the design of products, devices, services, or environments for people with disabilities. The concept of accessible design ensures both “direct access” (i.e. unassisted) and “indirect access” meaning compatibility with a person’s assistive technology (for example, computer screen readers). (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Accessibility) improvements
  • #31326 – Edit comment screen: misplaced-missing labels

The results were added as comments with those tickets.

Some of the testers found extra issues, not related to the tests, like the poorly labeled buttons in the comments editor (@afercia opened a ticket for that #31522). Another issue is the loss of focus for screen reader users in various places in the admin. This can’t be solved easily and we plan to discuss this in the Wednesday meeting of the accessibility group.

We asked to the more experienced developers and accessibility experts for solutions for properly combine label/input/checkboxes/radio buttons in complex structures, like mentioned in #31354 and #31356. We will publish their findings and idea’s on this blog later this week.

The new tests for this week are the patch with ticket #31415 and a retest of update/install plugins after the introduction of wp.a11yAccessibility Accessibility (commonly shortened to a11y) refers to the design of products, devices, services, or environments for people with disabilities.
